In today's world, hooligans do NOT drive Harleys (rather, Suzuki
GSX-Rs). Of course Harley riders tend to be "nice" people--you have to
be a prominent citizen with an above-average income in order to get the
dealer to choose you as a customer.

The KLR is a pure motorcycle in the sense that it gets the job done and
is available to Joe Average.

I wouldn't want to see KLRs next to Harleys in a dealership. Don't want
to confuse purpose  (KLR) with image (Harley).

Funny how it's a perspective thing, on my end a long tradition of murder
for hire, crystal meth production/distribution, abductions, and general

again I do not want nor will ever own a Harley, probably the missing

Brian:

Your opinion applies to retail, not the small cottage manufacturing concerns that this
discussion started with.  If you want to buy a book or a loaf of bread, then the
product is a commodity and the acquisition of it is where the retailer has their
opportunity to add value.

This discussion started out talking about a center stand for a KLR.  Your options are
more limited than a loaf of bread.  You can buy a welder and some tubing and make your
own or trade in for a Funduro.  Either would cost more and take longer than waiting on
this company willing to make a small run of a weird component for a bike that each
dealer probably sells 2-3 of a year.

I also figure if I do it myself there is nobody to get mad at.  I have enough
confrontation at work.  Lately I have been having fun painting my bikes.  So far I
have done my FZR400, VFR (that was purchased crashed) and most recently my wife's
Hawk GT.  In all three cases there are errors that if I had hired a professional I
would have been very disappointed.  As it is, I am proud of the way they look.  If
I changed the chain and it broke the case, I would know to be more careful and fix
it.  If you paid somebody else to do it and it broke the case, you are still going
to have to fix it, the difference is you will also have a ton of anger that will
probably go unresolved!

Wrangler owners/enthusiasts?  I have a buddy that has been experiencing a

knows of such a list, please let me know.
