Hey Scott,

The Givi luggage I have is lockable and is attached via a push button system
and key. They are very easy to install and remove. The bags go for $120 ea.
and the side racks are $139. I also got a top plate that was $40. On the top
plate you can use one of the side bags as a trunk or buy a third bag. The
bags are 40 liter size and do come in smaller sizes. Installation of the
side racks was fairly easy but I had to do some filing of the stock rack to
make the tail light bolt to fit. If money is the problem then the top plate
and one bag is ideal for in town commuting. I keep my rain gear and a small
tool kit in there all the time and I still have room for a backpack with
shoes and books.

I get you some photos of the system in a short time.

Paul,

On my trip to Colorado, I had to take I-25 out of Albuquerque. Most  of the
drivers are going 80 or better. I do get my KLR up to 80 but  the wind
turbulence off the windshield is punishing. I am 5' 10" and am thinking
about getting and Clearview +4 windshield.

Paul,

I forgot to mention that in windy conditions the KLR is a lite machine even
when I had it loaded down with givi luggage and camping gear. I made sure
that I had a full tank in the areas that I knew would have high winds.

Maybe this is due to my inexperience on motorcycles. I only have ridden
13000 miles.

Arne, Brian and I put four long days (1000kms+/per day) on our KLRs to get
to Moab and back to Canada.  Most of my riding was at 110-130KPH on I-15 -
both in heavy rain and sunshine.  The KLR was great and handled everything
very well.

As a comparison I recently rode my Katana750 to Seattle and back - about
1000kms each way in 10-12hrs/per day.

Frankly while my Kat's seat is more comfy than my KLR's the Kat makes my
right knee ache at about an equivalent level of discomfort to my KLR making
my butt ache.  On top of which I can much more easily strap gear onto my
KLR.

Where the KLR suffers is that I can't snap my neck back when rolling on the
throttle at 130KPH the way I can on my Kat.
