If we could get some help from some of "the engineers" out there on this, it
would help me give an idea to the manufacturer of these skid plates what
needs to be changed.
The original problem seems to be that Kawasaki decided to make the KLR with
the drain plug below the bottom level of the frame tubes. The manufacturer
of the Moose/MSR skid plate made their skid plate with a bend in the bottom
flat plate to clear the drain plug. This design is ok for most all impacts
but I would imagine that if you hit just right with something solid then you
could bend the skid plate exposing the drain plug.
The manufacturer of the White Bros. skid plate makes theirs with an added
extra piece below a cutout for the drain plug which then doesn't allow you
to remove the drain plug without taking off the skid plate. The WB skid
plate also has lower side protection and no vent holes in the front, along
with the wimpy front mounts. (right Arne?) This is the reason I don't sell
WB skid plates any longer.
So there isn't a perfect skid plate out there for the KLR. I believe that
the Moose/MSR is the best that we have so far but could be improved with a
little help.
Let me hear from you!

Any of the replacement shocks are more adjustable and are better made than
the OEM. The biggest advantage in changing over to an aftermarket shock
would be when the OEM is leaking, which many seem to do eventually. The
aftermarket shock is just a better quality shock. Everyone that has used
the Larry Roeseler series Progressive Suspension shock and spring have
nothing but good things to say about them.

Whilst trying to get the KLR going after a 3 week layoff, my mechanic tried
a
compression test.
The result came out at 50 psi......is this normal, it seems was too low?
Richard D

I'm sure that the KLR service manual will tell you this. But an engine with
an automatic decompression system can't give you and accurate compression
reading. An exhaust valve is held open for just a split second so that the
engine can get up to speed to start. This leaking exhaust valve won't let
it build up a true compression reading. It only has it's true compression
after it get up to speed.

I think it might be too cold out at this time of year for
Grog to only wear a loin cloth. Rumor has it that he
was last seen wearing a coat made from a grizzly bear
with the full head fitting over his helmet so the face
shield filled the open mouth and the claws drooped over
the handguards. Those that see him think that the grizzly
ate a biker and stole his bike but the informed know that
Grog ate the grizzly and made a coat out of his hide.
