We had several N. Idaho events in Sept... actually, quite a few. But from
here to spring I'm only aware of club specific events such as fall hunts,
and winter camps, etc.
The only thing scheduled for the Lewiston area (that I'm aware of), is a 9
Oct event called "Asotin Days" where my group will carve a dugout.
I'll start posting more info on the region in February when I get back
from the Couer D'Alene show.
Don't miss the Enumclaw show! It's pretty neat.
Unless someone knows something I don't.....?

term, not necessarily that it was a completely new term. Lost Maine Boy =
is better, one way or the other. =20
I have had the pleasure of reading a rough draft of Across the Seasons =
and it is very good, very readable...an imaginative blend of history, =
mysticism and time travel. What else could you want? I am proud of the =
homework (two years of research, including multiple trips to Wyoming) =
that Laura has put into the book. The attention to detail and the =
endless homework shows, even in the rough draft. I was pleased to offer =
some small assistance in completing the project and look forward to =
seeing the book in print.

There is an entry in Noah Webster's 1828 dictionary for pancakes:
PAN'CAKE, n. A thin cake fried in a pan.
Some folks think it will never be good times, till houses are tiled =
with pancakes.
Feastcake was not mentioned, but in the context described, it seems =
certainly plausible.

This got me to thinking about how the wood would be used to
cook aboard a
sailing or cargo ship of the period. There could be some
interesting and
unique problems hidden. Where was the wood stored
and how was it kept dry. Wood takes up a lot of valuable
space. Did they
even cook on board these ships, or just eat hardtack and
other cold prepared
foods.
I don't know the answer to your questions, but I do recall
reading of having the cookfires doused prior to going into battle to prevent
fires.

the mountain man in American history and culture. One aspect I look at
is the buckskinning/living history movement. To help my assessments of
the movement and to see if there have been any changes in demographics,

I have been fascinated with the trapping era ever since I was a child. One
of the best things I have done was to get into prim. archery which led me to
buckskinning. I am a trader and make a variety of bows, knives, leather
goods, possibles bags etc. all using authentic materials and goods that can
not only be showcased but used. I will be doing this till the day I die.
