  57. Terry, I have a good book on tanning.  It is called  'Wet -Scrape
  58. Braintanned Buckskin'.  It is focused on deer skin, but hides is hides? 
  59. There is section on hair on tanning.  This is a fairly new book.  The
  60. authors are Edholm and Wilder.  The publisher is Paleotechnics   PO Box 
  61. 876    Boonville, Ca  95415  ISBN# 0-9654965-4-6  .  I like this book,
  62. and perhaps it will have the answers for you.  It is well written and

  196. I personally shoot and have carried Jim Chambers, and Caywood guns in
  197. rifled and smooth bore for several years. For the money your talking about
  198. look at a lot of builders and for a few dollars more the builders above are
  199. excellent in quality.

  201. You may want to consider a weapon in the "white", you do the finish, I know
  202. that the two I have mentioned have guns in the "white", all that was needed
  203. was raise the grain once, light sand and stain the wood, fine steel wool
  204. the metal and finish to your liking.

  252. many stockers out there and also people who put kits together--a lot
  253. depends on your skills and what you really want to procure--danny kaywood
  254. puts together a kit---extremely good quality but he only makes trade
  255. guns, english  or french type guns---pecatonica furnishes kits but most
  256. require a bit of work and some skill to get to the finished product---don
  257. steith furnishes kits good quality but price not to my likeing---but you
  258. can depend on the quality---need to know what style and what you want
  259. from kit---pre assembled kit ---basic parts or what---post that and i
  260. will give you the best info that i have available---have been building
  261. and restoring for over 25 years so have seen a lot of junk and a lot of
  262. quality---remember the barrel and the lock is the heart of any weapon can
  263. put them on a pine board and have a exceptional shooter ---it depends on
  264. what someone wants and what he can affored---a basic set of parts ---you

  308. I found your site(s) early in my research.  The most exciting was to
  309. find the title page of Journal of a Trapper.  As it scrolled up on my
  310. screen, I felt the hair stand up on my head!

  312. Compared to other journals, Russell doesn't go into any detail about
  313. attending Rendezvous.  He merely tells when he showed up and when he
  314. departed.  I have attended two Rendezvous reenactments on the Wind River
  315. and Popo Agie in Riverton.  Hope to have my book finished in the next
  316. four months.

  448.   In doing some research on Jedediah Smith, I was reading through Harrison
  449. Rogers daybook. Some of the entries in his ledger are a little puzzling,  I
  450. hope some of you can expound. For example, on the right column of each entry
  451. are the letters "Dr." What does that mean? Some sort of debit mark?
  452.

  476. lot of original stuff and dont mind posting photoes of it---have a
  477. multitude of rifles horns, bags and about any kind of mountain man stuff
  478. that would be required---just have to get the pictures that you need---a
  479. friend had a digital camera and took the ones that we posted on kramers
  480. board---I truly wish i had taken pictures of all the guns that i have
  481. restored or repaired---the good ones i have tried to buy some i could
  482. afford and some i couldnt---being not a wealthy person makes it tough
  483. some times---especially when you find a treasure and cant afford to get
  484. it---I hit that delema all the time---best to you and yours---

  663. the Museum of the Fur Trade and related problems. We have never met in

  873. M.1815 Harpers Ferry I recently got some pictures of. After handling it
  874. while taking the photographs I really fell in love with it. I shot a
  875. replica a couple years ago but it didn't "feel" like this one. Would
