I'm surprised Frank stood for all the trouble. Should have taken back and got a replacement barrel.

Subject: MtMan-List: Sparkless Frizzen
Hello Camp,
I recently aquired a .75 smooth bore pistol in
flintlock. The frizzen was real rough and had to be
smoothed down so that the flint would have a good
surface to strike and ride on. Once all of that was
done and the flint was set, I tried several times to
get it to throw a spark, but it refused. Beyond trying
to replace the frizzen,(and I don't know if I can
because it's a reproduction with few markings on it),
what can I do? I'd appreciate ya'lls input on it.
Thanks, Gray Bear, Panther Clan Chief of the Over Hill

Sounds like you need to harden the frizzen. I will let someone more
qualified than myself, (which is nearly everybody!) explain the process to
you. If that doesn't work, you might consider installing a frizzen shoe, (a
plate soldered or glued to the frizzen face to provide a surface which will
throw sparks.) Once again, one of the many talented gunsmiths on this list
can no doubt explain better than I can.

mark---
you need to case harden the frizzen---you ground off the hard surface now
you have to put it back on ---you do it with a torch and casonite or have
a compitent gunsmith do it or reheat treat it for you---not a hard
job---can send you instructions if you want---
