Howdy Bearstrider, and welcome to the fire!
In addition to some of the things you already mentioned, I have and will,
when appropriate, use the following for a YMCA summer camp. This particular
camp is 8-11 year olds, but these would be suitable for teens as well....
A class on edible plants that are native to the area.
How to field dress an animal. (Check with the Directors on this one ;). )
Making and using snares.
Making bread by mixing dough "in the sack", twisting it over the end of a
small limb and baking it over the coals.
Passing around furs, trade beads and period accoutrements.
Demonstrating of fire starting (flint & steel and bow-drill).
Making cordage and knots using a Lucet made from a twig.
Making medicine wheels or bags.
Baking in a Dutch oven (which I personally hate to include for PC reasons,
but is always requested by the camp Director. Fortunately, I am not period
restricted in this particular setting.)
Depending on the group you are seeing at any given time, I have found that
the boys love anything to do with weapons and fire, and the girls love the
artsy stuff like quillwork, beadwork, trade beads, lanterns, loomwork, etc.
My camp has 4, 45 minute activity sessions each day. I tried to change the
presentation each day so that all 18 cabins would see different things and be
able to share them with each other. It seemed to be a major hit with the
campers and staff!
If you need any other info, contact me offlist,
Barney

Boys,
That's probably a very good idea Dennis, Buck has taken more of these animals than anyone I know and I have hunted with him and have seen him shoot, standing or running game he's right on. So with his skills, he still carries a second gun, that's good enough for me, the way I shoot anymore is a wheelbarrow period - I'll bring a load of weapons.
You boys better get more than one ticket, did you see the Baker Party pictures on the AMM site at: http://amm_raffle.tripod.com/amm.html nice bull and old LaVelle shooting that new Caywood smoothie.

Subject: MtMan-List: Cheap buffalo - read this.
I got my tickets, how about you Dennis and the rest of you folks? This is really a pretty good deal, you hear guys talk about cheap animals, well let me tell there's no freebies.
Have a guy at State College buy a young bull at a local auction, couldn't shoot it there, so he borrows a stock trailer to haul the animal to a place where the tree huggers won't see or know about it. Sounds like a fair idea.
The stockyard guys load the buffalo and off Cliff goes with his cheap bull, on the way coming off Jack's Mounatin the bull starts raising hell in the trailer. Cliff slows down and everything is OK, then for some unknown reason the bull jumped or something and Cliff hits a parked vehicle along side the road.
That cheap bull that he was bragging about cost him damages on the vehicle, plus on the trailer, he wouldn't tell us how much because his wife was listening, so much for cheap animals.
I'll buy a couple of $10 tickets and not worry about trying to haul a live animal, plus they help you with the care of the animal after it's down, that's a lot in itself folks.
Better get a cheap ticket at: AMM "Buffalo Raffle": http://amm_raffle.tripod.com/amm.html
The old site at: Historical Research: http://conner110.tripod.com/ is no longer any good, Historical Research & Development: http://hrd7.tripod.com/ now owns it and has combined the two at there site.
If you get lucky and win, I'll bring my fork and plate for some fine eating brother. If I win I would like you and Buck as my backup shooters with Pablo as our cook, we'll work that little sucker into the ground.

Cooks always get to test the fare, just to see that it is properly cooked, and I can assure you that I do a great deal of taste-testing, Hump ribs really need my concentrated attention, as to each and every rib. Must not let any fare reach your fork unless it meets my high standards. Remember, starvation is a good thing, when your cook is watching out for your best interests.

WAIT A MINUTE WHERE DID THIS "STARVATION" CRAP COME FROM, I THOUGHT YOU WOULD BE HONORED TO COOK FOR TWO SUCH FINE GENTLEMEN AS MR. MILES AND MYSELF. SCRATCH THE "FINE GENTLEMEN" MAKE IT "GOOD NATURED TRAPPERS" YOU FREEKIN' TEXAS TOAD AND THAT'S STARTING TO FADE.

>In truth, I want to know where all the members of this and certain other lists disappeared to when they finally got their way about reducing the cost of the tickets on this raffle. It seems passingly strange, at least to several of us who are neck deep in this project, that these fellows yelled long and hard, got their way, and now most of them have not bought one lousy ticket. I guess honor is not a term that translates well, or if they had good intentions and simply fell on hard times, they should have let those of us who care about them, step up and donate a ticket in their name. Doing right to those of us who are in need can be kept very private, and is the correct thing for us to do. As for those who do not have a financial excuse, a pox on them and theirs. If their word means nothing when they debate and get us to change the rules of the raffle, then they do not deserve to be on this or any other list of similar persuation.

I HATE TO SAY THIS, BUT YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD PABLO, TALKS CHEAP AND IT SEEMS TO BE SHOWING IN SOME FOLKS CASE.

NOW JUST A MINUTE WITH THE NAME CALLIN' MR. JONES, I MAY HAVE HAD MY FEELINGS HURT WITH YOUR REMARKS AND THAT LOW LIFE YOU REFERRED TO, BUCK. NOT REALLY I JUST CONSIDER WHERE IT CAME FROM AND THAT MAKES ME FEEL GOOD THAT YOU TWO THINK SO HIGHLY OF ME. MR. MILES WHERE ARE YOU, HE'S TALKING ABOUT BOTH OF US, OH DENNIS.

Half what, crazy about what ???? Anyone that runs around most of the time in a blacksmith shop barefooted and then throws out off the wall remarks needs to look in his own backyard.
Come on boys lets sell some buff tickets for the AMM, as slow as this is right now - hell it's better odds than these state lotto's for winning. The only thing going on here is Miles and Jones picking on my poor old butt, a blacksmith and a freekin' lawyer, what the heck is this place comin' to !!!
Like Buck says:
YOU HAD BETTER GET ON BOARD & GET YOUR TICKETS FOR THIS ONE FRIENDS. YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS OUT LIKE SOME OF THOSE FOLKS DID IN THE HAY DAYS OF "BUFF HUNTING ON THE GREAT PLAINS".
