  17. Probably not much.    After he left the mountains Joe Meek went to =
  18. Washington more or less as ambassador from Oregon to the US and wrote =
  19. that he was "lousy" when he arrived.  These were likely not only head =
  20. lice, but body lice as well.  Then as now, poor personal hygiene =
  21. combined with exposure to the little cooties could result in =
  22. infestation.  Lots of modern old timers (my uncle Bud, for one) swear =
  23. that using strong lye soap helps, but the little varmits are notoriously =
  24. hard to get rid of even with modern remedies.
  25. This makes me itch.  Lets argue about grommets or something.
