Subject: (hats) Permission needed?
Hi,
Does anyone know the legalities of using a "sample" of a
TV-interview without the consent of the people involved? It's
for the song I'm doing.

Don't take my word for it as legal fact, however, it is my understanding
that samples with durations of 4 seconds or less are fair game.
That's the policy I use when I do my own stuff, anyway.
Fortunately, I usually massage my samples into sounds which aren't so
easily identifiable.

WRONG! ANY identifiable sample can be pursued by the owners, no matter
how short it is... Just make sure that no-one knows what the sample is
by mucking about with it!

I found a Safety Dance cover by Luxt on Napster and am curious who they are.
It is a harder version, almost punkish, says it is off of Newer Wave
1998.
Anyone "know their name?"

Ok, "The Great Ones Remember" is now on Richard's site. I might be
making further changes though. The thing is, is that I've picked up a
cold or flu or something and can't sing another note. (My concentration
sucks too.) Need break! But, to anyone who considers themselves great
at mixing (I'm not) please e-mail me with any comments, I'd appreciate
it.
Later hatters...

I submitted mention of that to Lazlo's Discography a while back. Luxt is
a man and woman, generally industrialish music, and they have 3-4 albums
to their name. They do have a webpage (http://www.luxt.com? Something
like that... Google would probably find it nicely).
It is actually from 'Newer Wave 2' on 21st Circuitry Records. Also note
that another industrial band, Pain Station, covered Safety Dance on the
Reconstriction release 'Nod's Tacklebox O' Fun'.
