Hi, all. This is only the second time I've written. I'm trying to
acquire some MWH or Ivan videos. Any MWH or Ivan videos. Currently I
have none. :-(
If anyone is willing to help me (VHS dubs are fine) I'd be grateful.
I'm happy to reimburse for expenses incurred (materials, time, postage,
etc.). Thank you.
BTW, I'm in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA.

Subject: (hats) Someone is selling the MWH bootlegs on EBay
Hello fellow MWH fans,
I remember reading a posting that somebody submitted to the mailing list a
few days ago about how to remove illegal auctions from EBay. I just noticed
one of the bootlegs that was produced, I'm sure, by the MWH mailing list
being auctioned on EBay. The url for the auction is:
http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=147051932 . The
thing that bothers me about the auction is how much the seller is asking for
the cd. The auction is currently at $36.00 and the seller has set a reserve
price that must be higher than $36.00 since the reserve price hasn't yet
been met.
Does this bother anybody else besides me??
This is one of the reasons that I thought that having an organized release
of the live recordings where people could pay a "fair price" for the cd was
great, rather than having to be screwed over by someone trying to make a
huge profit on something. And, as with all boots, the band gets nothing. I
know that the issue of Richard Holdman's selling of the bootleg cd's is no
longer an issue of conversation on this mailing list, but I guess I would
still like to see these recordings maybe released by the "official MWH web
site" for purchase at a fairprice so that fans who want to be able to buy
these cd's will have a location where they can buy them at a fair price and
so that Ivan, Stefan, and other MWH members can reap the profits of the cd's
sold.
Anyway, I just thought I would bring this issue up to the list. I thought
about reporting the illegal posting to EBay, but decided against it in case
it was someone on this list.
Anyways,
Take Care.

(Years of nothing, and then 3 times in one day!)
There has been discussion on this list about the song, "I Know Their Name."
Seems that everyone is of the opinion that it is about fame.
I have a different angle. Have you ever thought of this:
Infamy!
When I first heard the song, the Menendez brothers were on trial for killing
their parents. The song kind of fit: "I know their name, I saw their
picture in the paper yesterday ... I read the story that was written on the
page."
That's what that song always makes me think of. Of course, it's hard to
turn on the news or read the paper and get any GOOD NEWS these days...
Anyone have any similar thoughts?

Ah... if it were only better quality, I'd be in Heaven. Please, Stefan,
release some of this type of stuff on an official small printing direct
marketing type of deal... I for one would be willing to pay $20-30 for a
CD of rare recordings and unreleased material such as this...
Anyway, has anyone tried transcribing the lyrics? Here's what I have...
If anyone can fill in any of the blanks (including the French portions), I
would greatly appreciate it. :)
The Same Halo
Men Without Hats
Low is high and high is low,
How are we supposed to know,
Which is where,
And when to go.
Give me back the same halo.
Could it be we're talking
About the same halo?
Rock and roll removed my pride,
It only told me where to hide,
Up and up away we go,
Give me all I need to know.
I remember Penny Lane,
I'll never walk that way again.
Rock and roll removed my soul,
Give me back the same halo.
Could it be we're talking
About the same halo? (x 2)
[French]
Rock and roll removed my brain,
Funny I still feel the pain,
...
... ?something? we should know,
I remember Penny Lane,
I'll never walk that way again.
Rock and roll removed my soul,
Give me back the same halo.
Could it be we're talking
About the same halo? (x 2)
[French]
When I look in your eyes,
There's one thing that I know.
When I look in your eyes,
...
When I look in your eyes,
There's only one ... tomorrow.

The Very Best of Men Without Hats is the European version of the 2
for 1 CD. They thought it would sell better that way. I tend to like
packaging and track orders like the originals so I kept it that way

Thanks, Carl. Unfortunately "Very Best" is missing a few songs: Ban the
Game, Ideas for Walls, and Great Ones Remember from RoY and Mother's
Opinion from FoTE. If anyone is interested in this. I ordered my copy from
German Music Express at http://www.musicexpress.com/ on 7/30/99 and got it
yesterday. They ship airmail from the Netherlands and the total cost was
only about $17!
Also, I'm not sure if the liner notes are different from the ones on the
2fer, but I can transcribe them if needed. Also, if Lazlo needs catalog
numbers, etc. for the discography, just let me know. :)

GRRRRRR! The whole idea behind us making FAN-PRODUCED
Materials was for the personal enjoyment of our fellow listers.
People who have contacted me out of the blue asking for Ts, I have
always told them to join the list, post a message, then ask me
again once they are "official."
It pains me that someone on the list is choosing to abuse the
resources available to the MWH Internet Fan Club by selling the
boot. Along with a couple of others on the list, we persuaded Mr.
Somebody and Ivan to let us make a fan-produced CD of the
demos by explaining to them that the boots are made solely for the
enjoyment and pleasure of the list members. I now feel that
whoever is selling the demo CD has made me into a liar.
If Stefan is giving out any black hat awards this week, I know who I
would nominate.
