Subject: (hats) my bio
Hello!
Since some new people joined the list recently (or a few weeks ago) and this
list has been quiet unfortunately, I thought it would be nice to
re-introduce ourselves. So here I go....
My name is Daniele Rossi and I live in Toronto, Canada. I'm 24 years old and
I'm currently looking for work in website design. I've been a Men Without
Hats fan since I was 9 and heard "The Safety Dance" on the radio. I became
frantic to buy their album," Rhythm of Youth" when I heard "I Got The
Message" on the radio and WHAT A GREAT ALBUM! It's one of my top 5
favourite albums of all time. I tend to like their early work more, but
that isn't to say I hate the later stuff. I was SHOCKED when I heard
"Sideways" (my first time was when I saw the video) because Men Without Hats
to me meant electronic music. But the song is good. I've never seen any of
their concerts but thanks to the fan videos, I can say I "did" :) I know
it's a bit late to say this but, "welcome to the list!"

Hello.
My name is Tom Norman. I was born in New Orleans, La. USA.I live in
Columbus, Ohio now. I am 26 years old. I am a contract issue service
technician (WHAT!?), which means that I issue annuity contracts for
Nationwide Insurance.
I began listening to MWH after hearing Pop Goes the World on MTV in '88. I
liked it better than Safety Dance, so I went out and bought the album.
Later I got the used LPs of Rhythm of Youth and Folk III, and wished that
the "other" songs were played on the radio instead of "safety dance". Then
I would have liked the band in the beginning. Don't worry, I like safety
dance now.
I am one of the few listmembers that really digs "The Spell" too. Its
actually one of my favorites. My least favorite album is =
"Sideways"
next....

Hey there, Hatters!
My name is Charlotte L. Stout. My upbringing was split between the S. F. bay

a character animator (just graduated to x-sheet timing) on the t.v. series,

I first heard of MWH with "Safety Dance", but I guess i am one of the few
freaks who happen to strongly dislike that song, cuz it wasn't until i heard
"I Got The Message" that i actually liked them, and only seriously got into
them from PGTW onwards. MWH remains one of my top fave bands of all time to
listen to: strong muscial structure, and many insightful messages within that
get their point across without bludgeoning the listener over the head ;-)
To all the newcomers, a much-belated WELCOME!

Hey all.
I guess we're re-intro-ing, so I won't miss this time around.
My name is Nicholas Pinto, and I live in Stratford, CT USA. I first heard
the ROY record when I was about 1, maybe 2. I last heard it when I was 3 and I
heard Safety Dance occasionally until I was about 10. I pulled some of my
parents records out and listened. After that was over I didn't do it again
until I was about 14. I rembered that I liked "Antarctica", so I put it on. In
those 5 years, my musical taste soared ;) and I really liked the entire album.
I'm 17 now and a giant MWH Fan.
My favorite songs (as of right this minute) are the extended version of
Ban The Game from the 1985 concert and the jazz/rock? version of Modern(e)
Dancing from the 1983 concert.

Hello Hatters. Since we all are reintroducing ourselves, I thought I
would join in. My name is Nathan Shireman, and I have been a hats fan
ever since I picked up ROY at a garage sale, when I was in the sixth
grade. Since that time, I thought only two other albums existed, PGTW and
21st Century, but was I ever suprised to hear from a friend a few years
later that there was so much more from IVAN and Co. Well, to say the
least, I've hunted down almost everything I can from MWH, and I love it
all. Even the Spell is a groovie disc!
I am an audiovisual sales director in my regular life, and in my life away
from my life I am a musician, currently working on a techo/industrial
project known as Walling For Dead Folk. I operate out of Columbus, Ohio
and I have a digital home recording studio on the side. Of course, MWH is
always blaring through my living room and studio....

In response to Collin:
I agree that the "I Like" live version from the 1985 Freeways concert is
fantastic, especially with the extended keyboard intro/outro with the
harmony on the repeat. I'd love to hear more versions of "Heaven" also as
Steve mentioned. For a band that used lots of electronics and synth, I
was impressed by how well they performed live. Are there any bootlegs of
concerts for PGtW, 21st C or Sideways?
PS I was just in Toronto last weekend and everyone was sold out of "The
Spell" (good for Ivan, bad for me :) ) Could someone give the 1-800
number for HMV orders again? Thanks!
hatlessly,
C. Frey

From: "Bill Black" <bill_black@email.msn.com>
Subject: (hats) Introduction
My name is Bill Black and I first danced to Safety Dance in 1983 in
Provo, UT when I was visiting some friends. I grew up in Los Angeles but did
not think much of that one hit wonder until 1985 when I had a missionary
companion in Brazil who had a copy of ROY and Folk III. I listened a few
times and decided to investigate further when I got home in 1986. Pop Goes
the World came out then which I didn't like initially but naturally, it
became my favorite. I was unimpressed with In the 21st Century but I thought
Sideways was pretty good for a hard rock CD. I haven't listened to the Spell
because I noticed the lyrics contain some profanity, which I don't
voluntarily listen to (I also don't see R-rated movies).
I am currently a 33 year old dentist living in Sacramento with 6 kids. I
was hoping to see MWH in concert this summer but I guess that won't happen
soon. Maybe we should just get a life-size cut-out of Ivan and have a
simulated virtual concert....
My favorite songs by MWH include: O Sole Mio, I Like, Ideas For Walls,
The Real World and Walk on Water. Their worst song is without question: 21st
Century Safety Dance. The things I like best about this list are stickers,
shirt and CD distributors. The Video was also fantastic.
Here's a question to think about....
If MWH produced a CD similar to ROY today, do you think it would be
successful (ie. would it hit the top 40 stations in the U.S., Britain and
Canada) or would it be a flop?

Hello!
I have not posted a message on the board in quite awhile.
I will be redoing the site somewhat this week as soon as I get the CDs that
Tom Norman already sent in the mail. I know there were a few broken links and
whatnot and I will be fixing everything along with posting some of the new
material that is not on there yet.
I also plan on putting more MWH videos on later after I get all the CDs put up
there in MP3 format.
I was also thinking of making a MWH screen saver. Latley I have been getting
into the screen saver bussiness and have been making some (check out my
web page at www.holdman.com/screensavers - not quite done yet though). I
was thinking of maybe making a MWH screen saver with pictures of the Album
Covers of their records. Anyway let me know what you think. The screen saver
will also allow you to have sound in it (which you can turn on and off). You can
have either MIDI files for WAV files. I can supply the WAV files but I was
wondering if anybody out there has any MIDI files of MWH songs.
