Subject: (hats) Promo CD singles & concert tape
Hello everyone!
I was cleaning out some old boxes last night in my room and I came
accross a couple of items that may be of interest to some people on this
list! A couple of Canadian 1 trk. promo CD singles from 1991.
The first one:
Sideways 4:58
CDP 482 (Polygram Records of Canada Inc.)
Promotional Copy
The second one:
In the Meadow 3:40
PCD 127 (Polygram Records of Canada Inc.)
This one is stated as "Radio Copy", not Promotional Copy
I checked them out in the discography... the second one doesn't seem to
be listed at all, and the first one is listed without the catalog
number.
I no longer want either of these items. I'm willing to trade if
anyone has access to any Duran Duran promo CDs. Or there's a couple if
MWH items I have always wanted (but cannot locate in this city I live in
on the eastern side of Canada): the 12" singles for Pop Goes the World
and Moonbeam.
If I can't trade these items off, I will auction them. Please write if
anyone is interested in trading or buying them. I would rather trade,
but I realise that the stuff I want may not be find-able (I couldn't
think of a better word....).
And another thing... a number of people wrote me about the Ivan concert
I recorded in Montreal last month (opening for Duran Duran).
I think I have written most of you back, but I listened to the tape
again last night, and I just wanted to remind everyone that it's only an
audience tape and is FAR from professional quality. But it still has
that totally amazing version of PGTW on there... wow!
Thanks!

Subject: (hats) My Low-Impact Introduction
Hey listfolk!
My name is Steve, and I've been on numerous mailing lists, but this is the
only one remaining because the level of discussion has remained civil and
interesting, and the other hatfans have been incredible about bringing about
videotapes and CD's of otherwise unavailable material. Hats off to you all!
(Oh man, does that sound stupid...)
I am a 29-year-old math teacher who is expecting his first child in less than
three weeks. And if that's not exciting, I don't know what is.
On the music front, my wife and I were just discussing what our all-time top
10 bands are, and of course MWH was one of mine. For those who might be
interested, the others are: The Icicle Works, The Chameleons, Blue Rodeo,
Talk Talk, Pink Floyd, Indochine, R.E.M. and Game Theory/The Loud Family.
Depending on how you count the last two, that's either 9 or 10. (And the list
is approximately in order of importance.)
The truly amazing thing is that I would rather listen to songs I hated in the
80's ("Missing You" by John Waite, for example, or just about anything by
Prince) than the stuff which is popular now. When I was in high school, I
thought I would always be 'cutting edge' with regards to music. What a laugh.
I'm going to be one of those old guys who tells their grandkids that "they've
never made music as good as they did in the 80's".
- --Swahili Steve
p.s. I'm looking for someone in the UK who'd be interested in trading CD's.
I really need the new Mark Hollis album, and I'd be happy to exchange some US
disc that someone can't get a hold of.
p.p.s. Is anyone on the list a northern Californian who has the ability to
burn CD's from vinyl? I'd like to do that, just for myself. (Unless there's
another closet Icicle Works fanatic out there...)

Hi Deric: it seems Dr Laura Kramer is the official distributor for that
CD. Her e-mail is easy to find in the who's who section of the Men
Without Hats FAQ site (
http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Venue/3136/home_mwh.html )

You'll find that and much more in the history section of the Men Without
Hats FAQ site (
http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Venue/3136/home_mwh.html )

Thanks to David, Tom and Dale for clearing up the FOTE numbers for me!
I still am looking for a source for the 2fer if anyone knows of one.
I knew FOTE was scarce but I wasn't sure how scarce. I found a copy
about a month ago at a pawn shop here in Naples FL for $6, what a find!
I was hoping the same person might have sold them ROY also but after
about an hour of looking through used cds I came up empty handed. Oh
well, I guess I can't complain.
Thanks again.

Subject: (hats) updates . . .
Hi Hatters!
Wow! I love seeing all these new folks on the list! If Claude
hasn't already hit you up for this, send him some biographical info
and maybe a picture of yourself for inclusion on the fabulous website
that Claude maintains for us. (And yes, Claude, I know I haven't
sent in a picture yet - still gotta find one of me without the dog.)
2-Fer update: All the ones that I arranged to get from Thomas are
"claimed." I have started a waiting list in case someone changes
their mind, or if I can get some more at a later date. I will have
to see what I can arrange with Carl and a European lister (hint,
hint! taking volunteers . . .). I also have not yet received the
next 5 from Thomas's mom yet. Recall that they are coming via
surface mail, so may take a long time. I will keep all orderers
updated whenever there is a new shipment, so we can kind of get an
idea of how long its taking.
T-shirt update: I have had a *very* *AWFUL* new year so far, and
have not yet placed the T-shirt order. Hopefully, I can pull the
requests from my two addresses together tonight and post an updated
order list tonight or tomorrow so people can check for errors.
Anyway, on the plus side, all you new folks can still order a
T-shirt. Your choices are XL and XXL (they shrink), and White or
ROY-Gold (matched to my 2-fer CD cover). The front has the MWH logo
in black and red (very large), and on the back it has "The Great Ones
Remember" and the list address. No limit on how many T's you can
order - one to save for posterity and one to wear all the time, one
for each day of the week, whatever. The more we order, the cheaper
they are! I hope to have these for under $15 apiece, including
mailing in the US (more to mail outside of the US, of course).
Well, that's all for now, I guess! Again, welcome to the new folks!!
:-) Laura in NC

Subject: (hats) 2-fers list
Hi Hatters!
Sorry for the list clutter - I'll be doing this again tomorrow with
the T's probably, so bear with me. ;-)
Before Xmas, I had in my hot little paws 10 of the 2-fers obtained by
Thomas, with 20 more in Germany with Thomas's mom. After receiving
your replies from my offer the week before Xmas, the 10 disks went to
the first 10 people who wrote after the time and date I specified.
After that, as the requests came in, I put people on the list to
claim the other 20 that are still in Germany. After those 20 were
claimed, further requests were put on a waiting list pending another
deal through a European supplier (still hoping for a volunteer!).
So, #s 11 through 30 are just waiting on the mail from Germany. In
case you've forgotten who you are (I know it's been a while, but
that's surface mail for you!)
11-15: Jon Stanley, Brad Day, Tyge Spane, Steve Reid, Charlotte Stout
I expect your CDs to arrive any day now.
16-20: John Stallings, Adam Weitzman, PD Kolb, Mark Frey, Richard
Holdeman
21-25: Alex Billings, Bob Webb, Keith Walker, Chris Larrow, Dale
Plantz
26-30: Nicholas Pinto, David Burdick, George Polly, Dave Krupla, Dave
Brady.
The CDs are being sent in sets of 5, approximately 2 weeks apart.
Thomas thought that this way Customs on both sides of the Atlantic
wouldn't get their panties in a wad.
Anyway, that's the way the CD distribution is shaping up. Hope this
alleviates some of the confusion.
CUL8R!!

Hey all. My first question has to do with Antarctica. Is there any
theme or moral to this song, or is it just a bunch of words strung together?
It is a great song, but I was listening to the lyrics very carefully today
and really tried to comprehend them. I know, I am putting way to much
effort into a song, but it was interesting.
Another question to Laura...
