  48. I'm not sure the contention made here about there being only one "original"
  49. form of an album is fair, and further I'm not even sure it can always be
  50. applied.

  52. As for the first item, fairness, who cares?  We could argue that one all day.
  53.  I'm an American, and my first taste of _ROY_ was the US cassette version,
  54. quite different from the Canadian album.  Anyway....
  55.  
  56. More importantly:  In this day and age, I don't know that one can always use
  57. 'first release' as a catch-all.  What about a world-wide release on the same
  58. day, with different tracks and sequencing in different countries?  Japan, for
  59. instance, often gets more tracks for their albums.  And US CD's from UK bands
  60. occasionally have one more track, or one less.  
  61.  
  62. One might argue that the format of the release in the country of the band's
  63. origin is the "original" format.  But what if the band is far more successful
  64. in another country?  (Bush, for example, has sold 16,000 albums in its native
  65. UK, 2 million in the US.)  And what if the cassette and CD forms in the same
  66. country have different tracklistings?  (See Pink Floyd's _Pulse_, for
  67. example.)  Then which is the "original"?
  68.  
  69. And what about the country where the release is being made?  Oglio is an
  70. American company, not Canadian.  One might argue that they have no reason to
  71. follow a Canadian precedent.  MHW's own country can't even get these albums
  72. re-released, so why should their old format decisions dictate what the new
  73. re-release should look like?
  74.

  98. If you don't think my assertion applies generally, okay -- I don't think it
  99. does either.  I do think it applies quite well to this particular album, 
  100. though.

  102. I don't like it when record companies alter the tracking on a reissue to
  103. meet time contraints or serve some perceived marketing need in different
  104. countries (as in: "Americans won't like this version, let's drop some
  105. album tracks and stick on a couple of old singles").  It makes a lot more
  106. sense to me that the twofer release duplicate the original Canadian
  107. version of RoY than it does for Oglio to try to squeeze in what amounts to
  108. a "bonus" track ("Antarctica") by using edits instead of LP versions or by
  109. dropping other album tracks at random.  The original (non-US) tracking of
  110. RoY may not be how *you* first heard the album, but at least it's how
  111. *some* people heard it.  A tweaked tracking would have no claim to archival
  112. legitimacy whatsoever.

  155. I have just received Senz's "In the 21st Century"  and "Hey Men" videos.
  156. They play perfectly on my (player) VCR!  Looks like 1st or 2nd generation
  157. for sure!

  234. I was in a bigger record store (W.O.M. in Nueremberg) on saturday and
  235. while browsing through the MwH section I found the Collection CD. So
  236. it seems to have it made to Germany... They also had the other three
  237. 'available' MwH CDs (Adventures, Pop and Sideways). Quite expensive
  238. ($25) though.

  240. I also found the Weird Al CD 'In 3D' with the 'Brady Bunch' on
  241. it. Quite cool but too expensive ($30, ouch).

  359. between digests.

  424. Ivan and (I believe) Stefan were interviewed on MTV right as "Safety
  425. Dance" was becoming popular. Ivan explained the "S" arm gesture from
  426. the video to the veejay interviewer (I believe it was Mark Goodman).
  427. Ivan was soft-spoken and bright. I remember being impressed by him,
  428. which added to my enjoyment of "Safety Dance" even more.
  429.  
  430. Does anyone have any idea of how to find this interview? It would be
  431. such a great addition to the already wonderful video we've got
  432. brewing...

  494. tapes , though.  Don't send me a check for a bit longer.  I'll make an
  495. anouncement on the list when I'm ready to begin recording.  Its gonna take a
  496. while, too.  I'm recording every tape individually from all the seperate
  497. master vids, for the best possible picture quality.  You won't be
  498. dissatisfied, I promise.   But everyone on this list will get a tape that
  499. wants one.  I won't send the masters back until we all have a copy.

  693. BAD NEWS: We were unable to reach a compromise with the US licensor for 
  694. the US territory. The CD will likely first appear in Europe or another 
  695. overseas country.

  697. Details have yet to be determined but the tracks will most likely 
  698. include those already discussed. Packaging will be similar to our 
  699. previous 2for1 series releases.

  701. For those of us in the US and Canada we will have to rely on friends
