  298. Alas, the idea of the Dark Lord (or Lady) rising with his minions
  299. predates Cook.  For example, when asked for a quick summary of the first
  300. book I often say "Think of a merc company working for the bad guys in
  301. LotR" and people know what I'm talking about.
  302.  
  303. The game doesn't use the same names as the books.  There are 6 or 7
  304. Fallen Lords, not the Ten who were Taken - I could keep going but let's
  305. just say the two are different enough that you can't legally say one is
  306. linked to the other.  Inspired by perhaps, but not a direct copy.
  307.  
  308. On the plus side, I've heard some people have picked up the Black
  309. Company books because they heard there was a link to the game - which
  310. means that Cook made some money indirectly.

  506. Um, I think he was referring to the hostile reply to your message (which
  507. he quoted) rather than your message.

  509. This is usually deadish - except when a new book comes out or one of the
  510. reoccurring subjects get raised.  These subjects (in no particular
  511. order) are:
  512. Who would you cast if a movie was being made about book X?
  513. How can we get copies of Glen Cook's backlist?
  514. What is Cook working on now?
  515. Debates about who would win a fight between X and Y.
  516. What other books are good?
  517. What was character X's motivation for doing Y? (One of the common ones
  518. of these - why didn't Lady use the True Names she knew in the Books of
  519. the South / Glittering Stone novels.)
  520.  
  521. As far as I can remember there's been only one really hostile poster
  522. (i.e. attacking other people as opposed to disagreeing with their
  523. theories of the books) on the list - and he was quickly removed.  Things
  524. seem to have gotten weird tonight (maybe because of the date?) but let
  525. me be one of the first to welcome to this list with open arms.

  539. I think Mr. Llaneza got confused over who wrote what.
  540. In any case, I've been a lurker here for a good couple
  541. of years, and everything is usually pretty quiet, with
  542. good-natured, polite discussions. I can only remember
  543. one instance of a really impolite exchange, but that
  544. got cooled off when others jumped in and pulled the
  545. two apart.
  546.  
  547. I like this list, even though it is relatively quiet
  548. save when a new book comes out. Don't worry about this
  549. confusion/miscommunication/what have you. It's not
  550. commonplace on this list.
