Croaker is "Over 40 by the time of the Tally campaign". The citation
for this is _Shadows Linger_, p. 30. I'm not at home now, so I can't
verify the citation. But that accords very well with my internal
picture of Croaker--30 is way too young for him at the beginning of the saga.
"if he had this age [mid 40's] at the beginning of Black Company (you're
describing the captain so it probably is) he would be something of 70-80
in the last book"
Brian writes....
(Hope I remember how to do this. It's been over a year since I did anything
but lurk.)
Pg 56 of Dreams of Steel not only has a good description of Croaker, it also
gives his age as "about 45 years old." On page 54 of the same book,
Soulcatcher's beheading was described as "a decade and a half" ago. Granted,
Glen Cook doesn't seem terribly worried about getting every little detail
correct but this would put Croaker at about a sprightly 30 during the first
book. (Anything younger than I am is "sprightly" / even if I'm not sure how
to spell it.)

No, I don't have it, and I'm leaving tomorrow for Sousse for a week, so
don't have time to look it up. Maybe others can help you. If they won't,
I'll try to find it on a tape, and copy it to my computer somehow. When is

I do, I do. <G> And you're gone. Quick and painless.
I'd thought about leaving him around for the abuse,

Thank you all for the thoughtful suggestions/instructions.
Other people are apparently making use of them.

Our performance is in November, American Veterans' Day (Nov. 11?).
Thanks for any help you can give--if you just know the tune and know
musical notation, a written description of, say, the first two bars will
be sufficient.

Would you be willing to take some questions from the list to the discussion?

Perhaps something like, "Was the character Glory Mooncalled modeled after
Napoleon?" :)

It's the reason that Glitter Stone took so long to come out. Glen Cook
wrote a DE book, couldn't sell it. All that time and effort spent
writing a book and no money for it.
None - so he vowed to never again write a novel that wasn't sold.
Why? Because the Dread Empire books didn't sell well. I liked them,
you liked them, lots of people on the list like them, but they didn't
sell and the publisher lost money on them.
How do we get that book published? Well, maybe we can contact the
publishers and tell them we'd like to see it, but I doubt we'd have the
numbers to impression them. The idea of Electronic Publishing has been
raised before, but most ePublishers are just online vanity presses.
There is hope though: Glen Cook's publishers are looking at a Print on
Demand service and ePublishing for some of their backlist. If the Dread
Empire books get added to those services and sell well then maybe, just
maybe the publishers will want to publish that book and pay Cook for it.
Which raises the question:
What kind of shape is that book in?
Let's assume the book needs some work - say 6 months or so to get it
ready for publication. Would Cook devote that time to a book that would
sell in limited quantities to fans following a series whose last book
came out in 1988, or would he spend his time writting a mass market
paperback?
Only Glen Cook can answer that question, and I suspect the answer may
depend on what he's doing professionally when the answer is raised.
Richard

Hokay, I'll try to remember:
Is Glory Mooncalled based on Napoleon?
Does Garrett have a front name?
More important to me is, does my favorite 2nd-hand bookstore have a copy

It'd be easier to check the St. Louis Public Library--I know that as of
"Red Iron Nights" release, they had a (more or less) complete collection
of Cook's works. :)
