Hm... I can't answer without giving a spoiler.... It's in Water Sleeps,
that's the impression I got from the quest down the magnificent stairway.
Soldiers live still hasn't been printed in Poland.

The thing buried under the old tree.
I know that's a bit of an end around.... Limper probably fits the bill well
enough for the most evil developed character.

My first thought was it must be either 'Catcher or Howler. Because these
are the characters we have contact with.
But then it came to me that almost everyone *really* feared the guy in
the ground, in his barrow.
[drum roll please.] Your friend and mine .... The Dominator!

One of my personal favorites was always The Limper. He lived only on
spite, hatred, and some magic to keep him alive. You gotta love spite.

Either The Black Company or Soldiers Live.
As for who wins the "Most Evil Character" award? Maybe the Limper, its
rather hard to decide that one.

Is this the Lee Childs that writes the Reeker books? If so good job, I'd
say great but as the son of a Marine and a Marine myself for 21 years,
you've missed some things.

Best Book to me is Soldiers Live. Prior to that it was The White Rose.
Here is another question to ponder, and I apologize if it this has already
gone around:
Who wins the "Most Evil Character" award in BC series?

For me, I think I like "An Ill Fate Marshalling" best.
"An Ill Fate..." is to the Dread Empire Series what "The Empire Strikes
Back" is to Star Wars. In it we learn that our heros are not only
imperfect... but also maybe not as even as good as we thought they were.
Cook uses the motivation of love better than most authors ever manage
to. He shows how little things can become a monkey wrench in the gears
of our lives. He renders his characters with actual fears and
weaknesses... and I love every moment of it.
"Tower of Fear" and "Black Company" get honable mention.
"Tower of Fear" for the almost Dickian sense of empathy created with the
characters.
"Black Company" is simply one of the best works of millitary fantasy
done to date. Although other books in the series are also done well..
Black Company seems like it has more of a "point" ot it than the rest of
the books. The characters in the black company seem to grow and develop
more in that book than any other.

I know this sounds like a cop out but I can not choose one. The Dragon
Never Sleeps is awesome, but so is Tower of Fear.

Ok, single book story. So I thought any one in a series did not count?
