Subject: (glencook-fans) any good books around?
hi all,
could you please give me a recommendation for my next readings (maybe
similar to the black company) ?
specifically, i am looking for books which
* favour the evil side instead of the good
* are without a super-hero (a kiddy with supreme skills)
* are without love stories in itself
* are still fantasy instead of horror books
thanks a lot!
cheers
steffen

You don't ask for much do you? Look perhaps there are some books out there
in the same line, but none that matches Glenn's books. It's a matter of
taste, acquired,
rather that another series. Even Croaker fell in love.... It's in all the
books...
You might like HP Lovecraft or Raymond Fiest or David Eddings or .......

I'm not sure it was quite that bad. :)
While suggesting books that others might enjoy is not prohibited on this
list, it should be remembered that this list is not for discussing these
other authors and their merits, or lack thereof.
I'd suggest searching through the archives for previous suggestions.
Perhaps a section could be added to the FAQ.

These are the only books I am really looking for. I have the second in the
series beat to hell. I'd pay some extra. I also prefer trades (I come out
ahead, so do you). Is there any books you are looking for by Cook?

Elric books by Michael Moorcock. Many of the same themes of the BC
books.

Steffen,
In fantasy series that are without simplistic morals--everyone is grey,
no black and white--I would recommend George R. R. Martin's Song of Ice
and Fire series. He comes the closest to Cook's fantasy noir tone of
anyone I know.

What a good idea, but wait...
From the FAQ
(http://www.xmission.com/~shpshftr/GC/Mail/glencook-fans-FAQ.txt):
"12. What other authors would you recommend for a fan of Cook's?
Many Cook readers look for authors that write with a gritty, realistic
(for fantasy/sci-fi) feel similar to his. Some names that have come up,
repeatedly
(and this is by no means an exhaustive list), on the Glen Cook Mailing List
include:
Steven Brust (Vlad Taltos series)
Laurel Hamilton (Anita Blake series)
David Gemmell (Drenai series)
George R. R. Martin (A Song of Ice and Fire)
David Drake (Northworld trilogy)
MS Rohan (Winter of the World series)
Iain M. Banks
Michael Moorcock (Elric of Melnibone series)
Robert Jordan
Steven Erikson
Damien Broderick (The Black Grail)"
I included these names simply because they seem to have been brought up
several times. If anybody has further suggestions (or suggestions for the
FAQ in general), please feel free to e-mail me.

My apologies, Peter. I should have checked the FAQ.
I was medicated and on my way to the doctor
and apparently wasn't remembering well.

Check out the Oath of Empire series by Thomas Harlan. He's got some awesome
villains, who you can almost sympathize with, and even his main hero, while
good-intentioned is not a saint by any stretch of the imagination. The book
titles are:
Oath of Empire
the Gate of Fire
the Storm of Heaven
