I have about five Garrett novels before I get to that one. I'll check
back with you.

'A Matter of Time' was the first Glen Cook novel that I ever read. I found
it very hard to start. I read a chapter or so, and then put it down for a
month or two. Then later on I picked it back up and really got into it.
Every time that I thought I knew where he was going, then he would throw me a
curve. A great novel.
After that, I was hooked. I picked up every one of his books that I could
find. And I found almost all of them. The others that I like very much, in
adition to the 'Black Company' stuff are 'The 'Dragon Never Sleeps' and
'Passage At Arms'. My biggest sarrow about Glen is that he doesn't write
enough Science Fiction! 'The Starfishers Trillogy' was also a very good read.

(Don - I must have been napping when your first message came in)
=20
I've read "A Matter of Time" three times so far and have really =
enjoyed it each time. It seems that Mr. Cook's habit of pursuing =
multiple timelines concurrently (he does it so often - Shadowline and =
the first Dread Empire book, the name of which I can't remember off the =
top of my head, both leap to mind) was taken to a new extreme in this =
one, because I also found it very disorienting. With that said, however, =
it seems to work every time he does it, even though it can make the =
plotline(s) more difficult to follow the first time through a book...
=20
I agree completely with your amazement watching all of the plotlines =
come together at the end of the book. I KNEW what was going to happen =
the first time I read it and was so far off it's scary. (Although in =
retrospect I can't quite remember what it was I thought was going to =
happen...) I also missed all of the political references...
=20
As a side note, it is because of this book that I was completely =
psyched to learn that Cook's next book is going to be a mystery. =
Although the Garret books are almost mysteries, A Matter of Time went =
all the way...
