So who did this song, and why do you call it a BC song? I always have felt
that Nick Cave's song "White Rose," could have been a perfect BC song, after
a few centuries of distortion (hard to reconcile the felt that she dies in the
song by her lover's hand otherwise).
Where the wild roses grow
They call me the Wild Rose
But my name was Elisa Day
Why they call me it I do not know
For my name was Elisa Day.
From the first day I saw her I knew she was the one
As she stared in my eyes and smiled
For her lips were the colour of the roses
That grew down the river, all bloody and wild
When he knocked on my door and entered the room
My termbling subsided in his sure embrace
He would be my first man, and with a careful hand
He wiped at the tears that ran down my face
They call me the Wild Rose
But my name was Elisa Day
Why they call me it I do not know
For my name was Elisa Day.
On the second day I brought her a flower
She's more beautiful than any woman I've ever seen
I said "Do you know where the wild roses grow
So sweet and scarlet and free?"
On the second day he came with a single red rose
Said "Will you give me your loss and your sorrow?"
I nodded my head, as I lay on the bed
He said "If I show you the roses will you follow?"
They call me the Wild Rose
But my name was Elisa Day
Why they call me it I do not know
For my name was Elisa Day.
On the third day he took me to the river
We knelt on the bank, and we kissed
And the last thing I heard was a muttered word
As he knelt above me with a rock in his fist.
On the last day I took her where the wild roses grow
And she lay on the bank, the wind light as a thief
And I kissed her goodbye, said "All beauty must die"
And I leant down and planted a rose 'tween her teeth.
They call me the Wild Rose
But my name was Elisa Day
Why they call me it I do not know
For my name was Elisa Day.

Besides, how can you go wrong with a duet and a disc about killing?

I've always thought of Queen's "Hammer to Fall" as a good tune for
the Black Company. Just have to change the one line about the
"mushroom cloud."

This is a beautful song - if anyone here uses napster I'd urge you to
download it. A beautful duet, but the female singing is often
mislabeled. I've seen this song with three different woman listed - all
of them the same song with the same singer (Kyle something).

I see that one as a bit too up tempo for the Black Company...
One I think would work is "The Leader" from Chris de Burgh. It's part
one of a three part song (the other two being The Vision and What About
Me?) that is wrapped around an upcoming apocalyptic battle - one they
will win, but pay too high a price for. [Note - if you download it
expect it to cutoff mid note - the three songs are supposed to fit
together seemlessly.]
Since The Leader is never assigned a gender, the song could easily be
about the coming of the White Rose. Or it could be Smoke's warning
about Croaker coming to help with the war against the Shadow Masters.
The Leader:
I looked to the North, and I turned to the West,
For a sign, a light in the sky,
Oh the message is clear, that the time is near,
For a leader to come again;
A circle of stones on the head of a hill,
Tonight is where it will be,
In this desolate place, we all stand and wait,
For a leader to come again, yes a leader will come again,
<some dramatic sounding kettle drums start up here>
For it is written, that a leader will be here,
And then a vision, left me blinded by the light,
And it started right in front of my eyes.
The Vision - his vision of the coming battle.
What About Me? - after seeing how the battle will end (in victory, but
with their land in flames) the singer asks "what about me, and you, and
the ones that we love?"

Another Chris de Burgh fan? *thud!*
I'd suggest the "Revolution" trilogy over "The Leader", especially since he
mentions the "years of domination" along the way. Also the final part,
"Liberty" reminds me a lot of Croaker and his conscience.
The Revolution
Wake up boys, there's a light at the window
I can hear someone knocking on the door
There are voices in the street
And the sound of running feet
And they whisper the word 'Revolution'
There are men coming down from the valleys
There are tall ships lying off the coast
And they carry the light
In the dark of the night
Like a whisper in the wind - 'Revolution'
Bring my gun and a handful of silver
By the sea we will gather for the fight
It's been so many years, so many tears,
We have lost once before
Now we'll settle the score
When our cannons will roar - 'Revolution!'
LIGHT A FIRE
Watch and wait, get ready for the sign
There are many here among us now
Who have not see the light
We must send the word to all the people in the land
Go to every hill and mountain
For the time is now at hand to light a fire!
Let us march the road up the rocky hill tonight
Under cover of the darkness we will slip behind the lines
We will take the men who have stolen our land
For the years of Domination
Hit them right between the eyes
And light a fire
They will see through the world
LIBERTY
Roll away the dawn
Roll away the dawn and let me see
The land of the free
Has anything changed at all?
Sweet liberty
Sweet liberty is in our hands
It's part of the plan
Or is a state of mind?
Horses and men
Horses and men are on the field
They didn't yield
Many have fallen here
Never forget
Never forget what they have done
The time will come
When it will change again
Never forget!
