  26. I'm rereading this book for the 3rd or 4th time. Although it's often viewed  
  27. as the least favorite Black Company book, I've always liked it.
  28. One thing that troubles lots of readers (including myself) is the way the  
  29. storyline jumps back and forth in time. As I recall, (from faulty memory of a  
  30. book read some years ago), there were the following timelines in the  story:
  31.  
  32. The Siege of Dejagore. 
  33.  
  34. Murgen and the BC back in the capital city some few months after the siege  
  35. was lifted. Most of this timeline seems to have been spent with Croaker and the 
  36.  wizards trying to figure out what was Murgen's problem.
  37.  
  38. The BC again in the capital city, far into the future, many months after  
  39. timeline #2, after Murgen's family have been "killed".
  40.  
  41.  
  42. I seem to remember a 4th I might be mixing things up. It's easy to do with  
  43. this story. There was something about an attack on the Deceivers' meeting place 
  44.  the storyteller knew wouldn't be completely successful?
  45.  
  46.  
  47. Then there's the burning annals referred to in the beginning of the book.  
  48. What timeline do those belong to and did this happen during the Deceiver  attack?
  49.  
  50. Anyway, any thoughts on the above will be greatly appreciated.

  129. include novels 4,5 and 6. I bought the first Chronicles off half.com and 
  130. enjoyed  it greatly. Since I'm not interested in joining a bookclub, I'll probably

  203. The first time I read Bleak Seasons, I had a hard time wrapping my head
  204. around it. The way Cook jumped around in time and between the plot
  205. threads reminded me a little of disjointed effect in Kesey's "Sometimes
  206. a Great Notion". I think Bleak Seasons gets better with a rereading or
  207. two. When I reread it, I stopped trying to keep track of the plots and
  208. just let the story happen.  If that makes any sense. My personal theory
  209. is that Soulcatcher is take Murgen one last "meta" jump back in time -
  210. reliving the past few years of his life, old time jumps and all.

  596. <DIV>I'm rereading this book for the 3rd or 4th time. Although it's often v=
  597. iewed as the least favorite Black Company book, I've always liked it.</DIV>
  598. <DIV>One thing that troubles lots of readers (including myself) is the way =
  599. the storyline jumps back and forth in time. As I recall, (from faulty memor=
  600. y of a book read some years ago), there were the following timeli=
  601. nes in the story:</DIV>

  603. <DIV>The Siege of Dejagore. </DIV>
  604. <DIV> </DIV>
  605. <DIV>Murgen and the BC back in the capital city some few months after the s=
  606. iege was lifted. Most of this timeline seems to have been spent with Croake=
  607. r and the wizards trying to figure out what was Murgen's problem.</DIV>

  609. <DIV>The BC again in the capital city, far into the future, many months aft=
  610. er timeline #2, after Murgen's family have been "killed".</DIV>

  614. with this story. There was something about an attack on the Deceivers' meet=
  615. ing place the storyteller knew wouldn't be completely successful?</DIV>
