Subject: (fractint) New Chebyshev images and formulas
I have taken a select few of Morgan L. Owens' Chebyshev formulas and
translated them to UFM format. While at it, I generalized their hard
coded bailouts and some functions, and added some user definable
functions were practicable. It makes for some interesting variations.
The formula file along with some parameters is now available for
download at my Geocities website -- Chebyshev Part 2 -- where new images
based on these formulas are also shown.
I hope you enjoy them and find the formulas useful.

Mmm, so there are three conditions that controll where a baby brot
will show up (in *any* formula). Does anyone know of simular
conditions that determine where those mini-Julia sets will appear in
the Mandelbrot set? Is there some simular set of conditions to be
satisfied?
I notice that every mini-Julia has a baby brot at its center, and
that the size ratio of the former to the latter seems to vary. Is
there some rule that governs this (okay, this is math, so yes there
*IS* some rule, what I ment was "does anyone KNOW what it is"?).
Thanks.

Faux Julias show up near minibrots. Their shape is governed by the
dominating minibrot in their vicinity. Mathematically, no, I don't know how
to relate them. :)

I think I finally have a useful input on the question. It's
something called "steganography", and is touted as a way
of concealing encrypted messages within image files.
I don't know why the same couldn't be done with plain text.
Here's a place to start:

OKay, I am partly guessing, but the roots to the iterations of the
algebraic Mandlebrot formula: z=0, z^2+z=0, z^4+2z^3+z^2+z=0, etc. are
where the minibrots are centered (stop me there if I am wrong), and the
level of "julia-ness" (self-similarity levels) is the lowest degree at
which the center of the minibrot, at the center of the julia, is a root
to the Mandlebrot equations. I think this is possible, because the
level of self similarity, and Julia-ness seems to encrease exponentially
as you deep zoom toward the borders of the minibrots. Just a thought.

Bear with me - this message is only of interest if you are on
CompuServe. On the other hand it does affect you, because this bit
of confusion could preoccupy our little team briefly that is working
on getting you a fractint release as soon as possible.
The Fractint folks have been shifted to the CompuServe DIGART
forum. Compuserve mebers should stop accessing graphdev
immediately. If you want to avoid downloading a zillion messages,
try setting your high message number to 172510 or so. The last
year or so of graphdev messages were put in section 9 with today's
date...

Subject: (fractint) New Euler images
I have uploaded some new images onto my Euler Gallery -- page 1 -- at my
Geocities website, to replace the old ones. All of the new images are
based on my translated Euler formulas. The download of formula and
parameter files has also been streamlined in order to avoid the kind of
errors I made in connection with my Curves files.
I hope you enjoy the new images.

Subject: (fractint) how to draw 3d .par file
Hi, everyone,
four years ago, I bought a book named "Fractal Creations"(second
edition) including Fractint ver. 18 in Canada. Of course, fractal
images created by Fractint are very
nice, I like the software very much. Currently I get the Fractint 19.6,
but when it plays
.par files including "reset=3D1960", it says:
Oops, I couldn't understand the argument
reset=3d1960
Would anyone like to teach me how to run Fractint for reset=3D?
Thank you!
Best wishes!
Shuigen Li

The "=3D" is an artifact of the mail program used to send the par file and
is not a part of fractint19.6 parameters. The mail program has replaced
the equal sign "=" with "=3D" for reasons I don't understant. The par
should say "reset=1960". There are probably other places in the par file
where "=" has also been replaced by "=3D" and you need to fix all of them.
You need to use a text editor (Programmer's File Editor available at:
http://www.lancs.ac.uk/people/cpaap/pfe is my favourite) to do search
and replace to replace the "=3D" with just "=" wherever you find "=3D". I
think the par file will work then.
This problem comes up from time to time, and you aren't the first one to
ask this on this list. Good luck.

Oh yeah, does anyone know if there are any GTK+, Qt, fltk, etc. ports
underway?
It would be nice to see fractint brought up to date a bit..

I don't believe that's what he meant. I think he meant compiling the dos
sources of fractint.
Borland C++B3 allows compiling plain c++ ... I dunno about VC++.
