  35. What this and the "test0==0" in the last line do is force Fractint
  36. to bail out after only one iteration if the starting point happens to be
  37. inside the shape defined by all those points for which test0 is true,
  38. rather than going the whole hog as it does for the rest of the image. This
  39. shape happens to look exactly like the words "MERRY CHRISTMAS".

  41. As the comment in the formula indicates, a program called FracText was used
  42. to turn the shapes of the letters into regions of the plane.

  60. Time I contributed something instead of just wowwing over all the new work
  61. people have sent.  Most of these Lyapunovs have really low maxiters, which sure
  62. speeds them up AND gets into a lot of the order VS chaos business.  I haven't
  63. got round to changing colours on most of them - hope y'all aren't too tired of
  64. the original palette!

  317. bubbles, living cells, and other interesting geometries.

  319. Question.  Is there a way to get into some serious equation modification?  On
  320. the Amiga, I have a program which let me generate far more serious
  321. modifications to lyapunov fractals.  I guess the way they are generated on the
  322. PC side is dramatically different, and I've yet to see anything reaching that
  323. level of complexity on the pc side, hence I'd like to explore the possibility.

  523. Well, we don't *bail out of Windows* - we run Fractint 
  524. under OS/2, where we don't have this problem in the 
  525. first place <G>.

  527. But, yes, under W95, we needed to shutdown to a DOS
  528. prompt, not simply open one up. I think this is due to
  529. the fact that even when're you're running a full-screen
  530. DOS window under W95, the W95 display driver has still
  531. stored some status (or other) info about the state of
  532. the display adaptor. I think Fractint alters the actual
  533. state of the adaptor enough that W95's info isn't valid
  534. anymore.
  535.  
  536. I suspect Fractint would run fine under W95 when set to a 
  537. disk-video mode, but that takes away the interactive 
  538. zooming which is so much fun when looking around for 
  539. interesting areas.
