Subject: (fractint) Re: Par file size?
Good (rainy) morning.
I would really like to know how many pars can be tucked into a par file.
It seems like there should probably be a limit but, maybe there isn't.
To be on the safe side I have created four files.
Can anybody help with an answer to this non-problem? This is on topic
since it pertains solely to the Fractint program and its successful
operation. (Or, unsuccessful, as the case may be.)
Anybody care to take a shot at an answer?
Thanks
Ray

"Formulae" is the Latin (as in Roman) plural which some of
us prefer to use. Probably intellectual snootiness or old habit
from too many years of mathematics courses. ;o)

Most of my dry spells are caused by not having time to get
creative. When I *can* wedge in a few hours, I am usually
chomping at the bit! It took one six hour session to create
four finished images, my contest entries and "Satin". Sadly,
I have only fractalled once since, when I came up with "Coat
of Harms".

Last weekend I created a single file of 1,100 pars. There
were no problems using it. ParToBat took it without a
murmur.

I don't know if there is a limit, but I'm pretty sure that you can put
more than 1,000 pars.
Cheers,

Yes folks, I finally solved the strange slowdown in NT.
In the "properties" window (right-click on the icon)
there is a "Miscellaneous" tab, and there is a slide
controlling "sensitivity to inactivity" (the actual name
may vary, since I'm retranslating it from Spanish).
I moved the slide all the way to the left and bingo !!
"THANKS = THANKS * THANKS + c" to the list
for all the suggestions on this topic.

Subject: (fractint) Tiled pars
Was thinking that the Julstar type images would lend themselves nicely to a tiled pattern,
so I decided to try adding that capability to the formula. Some examples of the results
are below.
You will need to replace the original "HC_Julstar" formula with the new version posted here.
Previously saved pars should still work the same as ever. Tiling is turned on by using a
negative value for the imaginary part of p2.
The tiling method used was taken from a formula called "TileJulia" written by Terran Suydam,
which I found in the orgform collection.
Hope you will enjoy these!

Subject: (fractint) Is there a difference ???
Greetings,
I am a fractint user for about 3 years now. Recently I searched the
Internet to find fractal programs who didn't have the limitations of
fractint (for the number of colors and the limit in imagesize - ignoring
the "simplgif" method of fractint).
I found the following programs:
- - Dofo-Zon Elite 1.07
- - Flarium24 version 8.9
- - Tiera-Zon version 2.7
- - TieraZon2 version 0.5
I installed them on my PC with NT4 and they all seem to work very good.
The question I have: Those 4 programs all look the same - the same
interface, nearly the same pull down menus, the same buttons and - from
my view - the same way of calculating the images. On each of the
programs I see in the bottom-left corner the remark "Iterations et
Flarium24" ???
Can anyone tell me the difference between those programs, or isn't there
a difference, or is there anyone with some experience in those
programs??
I tried to contact the author(s) but without any response.
Best regards,
Jan

I think they're all ersions of the same program, which went through several

I assume you got the latter three programs from Stephen C. Ferguson's
website (the author) at:
http://home.hiwaay.net/~stephenf/
His email address is loacted on that same webpage.
The first program listed is from Terry W. Gintz, and as he stated this
past summer:
"I'm just about to release Dofo-Zon Elite, which
includes a chronology of my program from 1989 to
the present. ....(sinpped).... read the Chronology
section (the link's in the About Dofo-Zon section
that is accessed through the Help contents.)"
Terry's website's are as follows:
http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Lofts/5601/
http://www.zenweb.com/pan/rayn/twg/
http://www.fortunecity.com/victorian/palette/31/
Both fractal programmers have worked on a "standard DLL interface" to be
used in programs that they write. They have written a general plugin
specification for formula and rendering type plugins, along with a
plugin programmer's guidelines. Dofo and TieraZon2 include the plugin
specification.

I don't have Tierazon2 or Dofo-Zon Elite, but I *do* have Iterations
(Ferguson's also).
Anyway, they indeed all look more or less the same. Yeah, I wondered why,
too...

Real computer scientists despise the idea of actual hardware. Hardware has
limitations, software doesn't. It's a real shame that Turing machines are so
poor at I/O.

Hi Jan,
The major difference I have seen is the end rusult images. Different frms
might be the reason? [I just poken'n'hope...no real plan or understanding of
these progs yet ] But the look is subtley different in each as to the shape /
form of the final image. You might want to also try GrafZViZion .. an other S.
Fergeson prog.
that I think is really cool!

There are variations in algorithms and colouring methods amongst some, eg
try the "unique dialog editor" in each with the same equation....you will
see you will get a different result.....I haven't had the same result in
each of the programs yet!

All the programs, with the exception of Dofo-zon have been created by
Stephen Ferguson and are well known by the fractal community. The first
one was Iteration (first versions 8 bit colours and now 24 bits). The
second generation was Flarium24, the 3rd was Tiera-zon, then TieraZon2
which uses dll plugins and the 4th GrafZvision, always under development
(sometimes it may crash). There are 3 other Stephen's miscellaneous
programs.
These programs are characterized by 2 major features which are a personal
contribution of Stephen Ferguson : the use of an original algorithm to
generate colour gradients, and the large use of "rendering filter" which
add sophisticated math transformations to the fractals and give a very
typical look to the fractals made with these programs. In the successive
generations these features have evolved and are more and more
sophisticated. In the latest version of GrafZvision the colouring method
has been improved by a sine wave algorithm.
Dofo-Zon is the program made by Terry W. Gintz. The first versions were
named Zplot Zplot24, Fractal Elite, Dofo and now Dofo-Zon. The
initial spirit of the program can be compared to Fractint but it can
handle formulae in the complex 4D space. Orbit trap methods introduced by
Paul Carlson and Phil Pickard have been added. The program uses a 24 bit
colouring method based on the interpolation of a 8 bits palette (the
initial palette is built like the Fractint one and this gives a precise
control of the color pattern of the fractals). A few months ago Terry and
Stephen have worked together to use the same dll plugins in their programs
and recently Terry has incorporated the Stephen's colouring algorithm in
his program, beside the traditional palette based colouring one. But the
use the each of these methods give very different colour patterns.

Yes, Stephen is for some time at Cap Canaveral and can't be reached. Look

The Stephen Ferguson's pages will probably disappear soon from hiwaay.net
and will probably not be on an other ISP server before a few months.
During this period Stephen's programs can be download from my server :

Stephen is for some time at Cap Canaveral and can't answer any email.
Let me know if you have some problem to download these programs.
