  22. A few other responses have explained why you need to keep the GIF (or
  23. the par).  What I do - being a disk-space-challenged individual - is to
  24. re-save images within fractint using a small view window.  This keeps
  25. all the fractint parameters so I can regenerate it, and also keeps a
  26. thumbnail of the image (which I browse using paint shop pro) - in one
  27. file.  I only keep full-size images (GIF or JPEG) for ones I'm working
  28. on or using, or very long calc. times.

  49. I would like to make a depository for PARs and FRMs for anyone who wants to
  50. post them.  If you are interested, you can email me your zipped up files as
  51. an attachment, and I'll arrange them by author, so whoever created them gets
  52. their due credit.  Feel free to email me the zip, no warning is necessary as
  53. long as it isn't overly large (say, about 50K).  Please remember to send
  54. them zipped, since I'll be posting them as such. (I don't mind if you want
  55. to split them into categories, so you can send me 3 or 4 separate files.
  56. Just send them as you want them posted.)  If anyone has any
  57. questions/comments, or something else you think would be pertinent to the
  58. site, please email me.  I haven't got anything on the site right now, but
  59. I've been itching for a web to design, but I haven't had anything to
  60. publish... <g>  (I don't think my own fractals are interesting enough to
  61. justify showing them off :)  But I am fairly decent at web design, at least
  62. <g>)  I'll give you all the address once its sufficiently underway.  Also,
  63. if you've got a large archive of PARs (such as Jim & Jay's FOTXs and the

  155. Testxxxxx method.  But why pick that rather than g (my fav), single

  775. But pseudoseriously; I really should write some documentation (George
  776. Martin wants me to do some for his Orgform collection). The commented bit
  777. at the top of each file gives a (vague) idea of what the formulae are
  778. about: Chby1,8,9 etc. are related to the popcorn/popcornjul and dynamic
  779. types, so expect lots of swirly bits; while Chby5,6,7,10 etc. are various
  780. root-finding methods (Newton, Halley, Cubic, Secant, and variants thereof);
  781. so resulting images will be related to the newton and halley types. Some of
  782. these have an expression "bailout=real(p2)/10000", which is supposed to
  783. make it easy to specify accuracy (p2=1 gives four decimal places when
  784. bailout occurs), but Gedeon went ahead and stuck p2=3000; giving lots of
  785. ribbon-like things.
  786.  
  787. There is still broad opportunity for exploration; "Here be Dragons and all
  788. manner of strange Beastes" is written all over the blank bits, awaiting
  789. dragonslayers wearing pith helmets and carrying vorpal swords. And the
  790. portside taverns will ring with the tales of travellers and heroes, and
  791. adventure will be in great abundance.
