Subject: (fractint) 7 more pars(mandel(fnIIfn))
I couldn't pull myself away from the mandel(fnIIfn), so here are 7 more
images. The last one is very different from the others. I guess it's time to
go pick(on) another fractal type for a spell.<g> For now,......Enjoy~

Subject: (fractint) I'm back; also updated galleries
Interestingly enough, I haven't heard anything from the list in about a month
and a half. I wasn't able to figure out what had happened, so I resubscribed.
I do know that the time was roughly when I changed my return address on mail
to a rot13 version (which I already used for usenet). Could this do anything
of that nature?
Anyway, what makes this an on-topic post is that I've added a few fractals to
my site, after a goodly absence (since March, I believe). Now, school's out
and I can get back to doing things. :) I replaced the strangely behaving
Java chat with a stranger behaving cgi chat, which I don't like--but it's
faster than the old one. The new fractals, I must admit, weren't made by
fractint, but by TieraZon.
Fractal page: www.connectu.net/bhyde/fractal.htm
TieraZon Gallery: www.connectu.net/bhyde/fr_tiera1.htm
Fractal chat: www.connectu.net/bhyde/fracchat.htm
Comments on any of these are welcome.
Also, I am trying to install linux as a dual boot OS with W95; I have some
questions which I won't spam the list with. If you think you can help me
a bit with kernels and some basics, please email me (not the list).
Anyway, hi all. 8) Now I can enjoy the pars again.

It's because you used Microsoft Outlook Express 4.71.1712.3 and the
email was sent as:
Content-Type: multipart/alternative
instead of the usual:
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

You know, that's *way* off-topic. I'm sure the thought has probably
occurred to many of us -- but we didn't post to this mailing list. Why
don't you post to comp.os.ms-windows.advocacy instead?

Beautiful, Jim! Mnfn2705 is my favorite, but Mnfn2703 was a close
second! I like the rose color in 2705.
I couldn't get the overkill series to run. Maybe after Les (wonderful,
helpful Les) makes in June files available I will get them to run ok.
Thanks for sharing!

comment { words and pars by Mark "Bud" Christenson 3/28/98
This morning I awoke from a very weird series of dreams
that left me in a creative mood. I have been playing with
Philip DiGiorgi's gravijul4 this month when my urge to frac
exceeds my self discipline, and today was no exception.
My last dream involved using poisonous snakes in self
defense, watching my attacker die, and then in turn being
bitten myself while returning the little green and orange
beasties to their cage. I once saw a program on TV (PBS
or the Discovery Channel about a snake handler who was
once bitten by an extremely toxic variety and almost died.
He described the hallucinations produced by the near fatal
dose of neurotoxin as quite vivid, cross-linking sensory
inputs (e.g. auditory to visual) in a manner usually attributed
to high doses of LSD, and at some stages quite pleasant.
This morning's fractal combines elements from my dream,
including fanglike, serpentine swaths of green and orange.
The palette is a mutation of backlite.map (Sylvie's or Linda's,
I think).
To make saving the par worthwhile, I have added a couple
more of this month's good ones.
Enjoy, Bud

You appear to have been cut off after the third "blah", which has (as
you can see) only an ellipsis after it. Whether this was your own
excellent judgment or someone else's, I cannot say, but I would venture
to guess it was the former.

It was just so weird. I have never seen the list silent for so long.
I figured I had been ousted for lousy proofreading :-P

From: Lee Skinner <LeeHSkinner@compuserve.com>
Subject: (fractint) Posing a M'brot Problem!
I pose the following problem on the properties of the Mandelbrot Set:
Assume that I am looking at a midget somewhere very deep in the
Mandelbrot Set. I notice that at the edges of my image there is an
eightfold symmetry about the midget: there are 8 almost identical
filaments crossing the boundary of my image leading to places unknown.
Now I know that the Mandelbrot Set is simply connected. So these 8
filaments each have a direction associated with them pointing back to
the Main Lake. Therefore 7 of these filaments point inward towards the
midget at the center of my image, and one filament points outward away
from that midget.
Is there some way of determining this direction of a filament - i.e.,
are there any clues in my image (e.g., relative sizes of various similar
shapes along the filaments, etc) to provide this information without my
having to zoom out a few times to follow the maze? (With a network of
natural streams, one could look at slope, confluence angles, etc.) I
have a feeling that there must be some method that would work in the
Mandelbrot Set, but so far it escapes me.

Based on the years I have spent poking around the M-set,
and unless I am mistaken, the "head" (pointy end) of the
midgets always point away from the main lake. Or, you
could interpret it as the midgets mooning their ancestors.
Please feel free to slap me silly if I'm wrong (probably
wouldn't take much at this point).

Subject: (fractint) PARS - Weeks later
A while back, there were several nice pars and formulas posted based on the PopcornJul. I had
spent some time fiddling with a generalized version of this type a year or so ago, and was
inspired to re-visit it. The formula and images that follow are the result of an attempt to
marry this old formula (pd_pcj) with the modified Hi-Cycle coloring method that I've come to love
so much. Hope you like the results.
