Subject: (fractint) dmj-Magnet-Cir-Ang (3 PARS) (again)
Screwed that first post up :)
Greetings!
I really liked some of DMJ's formula's (ie. dmj-Mand-Cir-Ang) so I was
curious as to how that method would work with the magnet1 fractal. I
am not sure if just substitutuing the magnet1 formula in place of the
mandelbrot is the correct way to do implement it. Does anybody see any
other changes neccesary? Anyway, what ever I did, here are some cool
looking images that came out of it. Enojy!

Jon,
On my web site I explain a bit about how the formulas work, and how to
modify them:
http://www.fractalus.com/misc/dmj-pub.htm
The changes you have made are sufficient. BTW, the reason I use only four
letters for the fractal type--Mand and Nova instead of Mandelbrot and
NovaM--is so that I could include an inside variant (ending in -I) and
still keep the name under 18 letters.
...just looked at the pictures. Veeerry nice. I especially like #16.

Hi Joe,
Yes it is runtime error 200... it appears immediately after attempting to
run.
<It is the latest version? > Hummm....Version 3.4 1997...???
Maybe thats it? What is the newest version and where can I find it?

The latest release is ver.3.5 and you can d/l it from my website
Download-Area.

Make sure that you load the version for the very fast machines, because
Michael
updated his Borland Pascal. The error must disappear.

I suspect some one on the list has done prints of fractals. I'd be very
interested to hear opinions as to the best method. Some one has suggested to
me to explore the possibility as they would like to have a few prints, and i'd
like to give them the best possible image on paper.

There are essentially two general categories of making prints of fractal
art: ink, and photographic. Ink includes lithographic prints, and ink-jet.
Photographic involves producing a positive or negative transparency using a
Kodak LVT or a Cymbolic Sciences LightJet 2000 and then using photographic
enlarging onto photographic print paper.
For small runs, I much highly prefer the photographic approach as that
produces a much higher resolution image and *much* broader color gamut.
Unfortunately, inks have limited color gamut, and it is difficult with inks
to accurately reproduce many of the brighter RGB colors fractal artists
often use. In addition, if one uses Ilfochrome or Fuji reversal papers,
the archival life of photographic prints greatly exceeds that of any dye-
based inks (the jury is out on pigment-based inks). The advantage of ink
prints, though, is greater flexibility with regards to the paper itself, as
well as greater familiarity by the public for art on paper rather than on
polyester substrate.
Once you see a properly made Cibachrome or Fuji super glossy print printed
from an 8x10" Kodak LVT transparency, you'll never want to go back to any
ink-type system -- they are spectacular. Maybe Lee Skinner can comment
since he has first-hand knowledge of this.
For more information, refer to the Fractal-Art mailing list archives. Damien
Jones can tell you how to access them. (Of course, you *need* to subscribe
to the Fractal-Art mailing list).
Good luck.

I mentioned some time ago that I'd got an HPGL pen plotter and was
plotting L-Systems with it. It's pretty neat to watch, but it's slow,
and the color quality is terrible. Bought two plotters for $10, though.
Also, you can render a low-resolution (like 30x40) image in Fractint
with just a few colors (like 8 or 16) and use the HPGL print feature to
generate a nifty cross-stitch diagram, which you can then render onto a
pillow, towel, or just something to frame, using a needle and
embroidery floss.
You can probably print the HPGL thing on things other than a pen plotter.

How do I put it in reverse?

Subject: (fractint) Jcamp09
Is Fractint broke or is it just my copy and setup messed up
or is it the par?
First I start the par Jcamp09 in Fractint but before it
finishes hit "M" for menu.
After you are into the menu just hit enter with will get you
back to the fractal.
Fractint now comes back on my machine and says I now have 3
errors in the par.
2 of the "Error 4, Undifined Operator" and 1 "Error 0,
should be an argument".
Why did it like the parameters when I started the fractal
but finds errors after fractal is started?
Does anyone else get these messages?
