Subject: (fractint) PAR oops, sorry list
Hi. Yesterday I inadvertantly sent an e-mail to the list that I meant to send
to the individual who had asked the whereabouts of a file a few weeks ago. I'm
sorry for the off-topic post but would like to say Thanks! to Kragen and to
Cindy the Fractal Lady for the information they put up afterwards. Many
thanks!:)
Here is a par from fiddling around in spiderM. Honestly, I don't know how you
guys come up with names for the oddities that turn up in fractint <vbg>.
Cheers!

Subject: (fractint) Non-sequence numbering and alphabetizing
I have suddenly and unexpectedly developed a new problem - or, rather, my
computer has.
My par files which have always been alphabetized and the numbering of my
qif files are suddenly not is proper sequence.
Can anyone explain what happened and what I can do about it?
Much obliged.

Hello there!
=20
I have just started trying to use FractInt. It looks wonderful and shows =
many fine features. I have been writing Fractal programs myself but this =
really widens my horizon!
=20
At this moment I have one (urgent) question. There are a number of =
printers listed but I miss the HP Deskjet types. I own a Deskjet 850c =
and I have found that with WinFract this works OK. But with FractInt =
itself this does not work. When I try PaintJet I get some distorted and =
striped printout and with LaserJet I only get a Black/White print. Is =
there any way to get Deskjet to print with FractInt?
=20
Kindest regards,
=20

Paul Gellings,
Your best bet is to use a Windows graphics program to print your images.
FractInt's printing support isn't really designed to handle a large variety
of printers.

My first (presentable) gravijul4, my first fractal in quite a while,
and probably my last for some time to come. I whipped this
baby out four days ago, and just got now time to send it.
Seriously. I'm busy busting ass (mine) on a new job that's
paying 30-50% of what I'm worth, but it beats unemployment
(barely!) . Oh, and a Web database volunteer project for
SFSU/CPEO (anything to get my mitts of a UNIX server),
and continuing the search for a better job.
The image is also kind of busy, but I like it (but I don't like
*me* being this busy). If you want to see how *really* busy
it is (about as busy as I am), try changing or rotating the palette!

Subject: (fractint) Four-in-one Julia Formula
This is the most complicated formula I've written but
it is also the most interesting (I think). Due to the
length of the formula I haven't put comments in it. I'll
be glad to post a commented version if anyone would like
one.
The pars should be run at the highest resolution possible
(they execute fairly fast) with passes=1. If you use
passes=t you'll get a pure white screen.
It took me a while to figure out how to do this - I'll
be interested in what you think of it.

Very clever! Unfortunately, when I tried to zoom in on one of the 4
julias, the results were not as expected! I think that when I zoomed in =
on
the lower right of the 2nd 4-julias par, only the loer-right 1/4 of that

Sorry, Lee - I should have mentioned that the images can't be zoomed
into. There's no way I could provide for that. But I'm glad you
found them interesting. It sure was interesting writing the formula - I
now know a lot more about the ins and outs of Fractint formulas than

Subject: Re: (fractint) Four-in-one Julia Formula
There are a few things I forgot to mention about this formula when
I posted it last night. There are several things you CAN'T do with
the image, including: zooming in, rotating, moving it in any direction,
and in general, anything that changes the location of any part of the
image on the screen. This is because I had to "hard code" in location
info for the four images in statements like:
w = 2 * (pixel + (1,0.75))
which work only for the area in the complex plane of
real(w) = -2 to 2 and imag(w) = 1.5 to -1.5.
Note to developers: it sure would be nice to have the corners info
or the center-mag info available to formulas (it's not, is it?).
The things you CAN do with the formula include: changing the Julia
set coordinates, changing the size factor for any of the four
Julias, and changing the colormap.
The reason I wrote this formula was to see what was possible to
do using some of Fractint's builtin formula variables (scrnpix
and scrnmax) that I've never used before. I will probably be
playing around with crazy formulas like this one a little more.
I'll post anything that I think is interesting.

I am very much impressed with Phil DiGiorgi's Pd-hc_grav2 formula. It
combines a variation of an extremely versatile formula - Bud
Christenson's Gravijul - with one of Paul Carlson's coloring methods,
and gives no less than seven user definable parameters in the process.
That is a winning combination! I already posted several pars based on
this formula, but I don't really want to post any more, since I have 50
of them. But I invite you to visit my web site where I put 21 of them on
a page of their own - click the link "Images based on PD-HC_GRAV2
formula." If interested, you can also download all 50 pars. I hope you
enjoy them. Thanks Phil for a great formula.

A very impressive and interesting formula. The upper left seems to use the 3D_Balls method, and

Thanks, Phil! The formula names for the four Julias are (as best I
can remember)
Cdp_Julia Mandel_Rings (Julia version)
3D_Stalks_Julia Shields_Mset (Julia version)
The Cdp_Julia is similar to the 3D Balls method, but uses a faster
rendering method.
I'm glad you found a use for one of the images.
I'll be posting a revision of this formula soon which incorporates
modifications by Sylvie Gallet that allow for some zoom capabilities.
I'll also be posting an Mset version of the formula - the changes to
do that should be trivial (famous last words!).

Subject: (fractint) Zoomable Four-in-one Julia Formula
Some people have suggested that Sylvie and I collaborate on a
formula. Well, this is as close as we've gotten to doing that
so far. The formula below is my Four_Julias formula to which
Sylvie has added some zooming capabilities. Sylvie began by
suggesting to me how I might add zooming to the formula. I tried
her suggestions but couldn't get them to work. The problem was
that I was trying to zoom in on a portion of the upper-left
Julia, hoping that the portion in the zoom box would then be
dislayed in all four quadrants. I told Sylvie that I thought
zooming was impossible without knowing what the pixel coordinates
of the zoom box are. As it turns out, I was both right and
wrong. I was right for the type of zooming I was trying to do,
but as this formula demonstrates, a certain type of zooming
is possible.
I think it's really something that Sylvie could accomplish this
by adding just 9 lines of code and changing 4 more!
To use zooming with this formula, you have to mentally expand
one of the quadrants to fill the whole screen and then zoom
into that expanded image (does this make sense?). In other
words, you are not going to get what you see inside the zoom
box. But try it - it's not that difficult. The pars
4juls_z3 and 4juls_z4 were done this way. The first two
pars are identical to those in the original formula.
