You are absolutely right! I certainly did not know it, though I use both the
<C> key and the <E> key. Thanks for pointing it out.

Subject: (fractint) Memorial Day formula and pars
comment {
This formula and pars are for new images that I just made for
Memorial Day. In keeping with Memorial Day, I tried to create
images that were solemn, dignified and beautiful. I'll let
you judge if I succeeded at all - anyhow, they are the best that
I could do.
This formula is the first few terms of a series expansion of
some log function - I forget just which one - it may be
log((w+1)^2). Anyhow, feel free to play with it - it's not
reserved for Memorial Day.

Maxwell's equations for electromagnetism. Everything 19th-Century physics
knew about electricity, magnetism, and light (in short, everything except
gravity) is encoded in there. And probably a few fractals as well.
My favourite formulation though is still the good old
"Fiat Lux".

Oh. Like many Americans, I thought that Jihad just meant 'Holy War'.

You hit the "W" key. Once you do that you cannot change back to colors.
The only way yo get back to colors is to reload the color map you were
using.

More likely he hit the F6 key which is more towards the right than the W-key
is.<s> I've do that so many times I lose count.
Then, all he'd have to do is return to the video mode he usually uses.

Nope, that's not it! I swapped keyboards and mice (?!!) with Mike. My

Nope, that didn't fix it either. Thanks guys, but I still need help!

(Original message: Yesterday my keyboard croaked, so we bought a new

Natural Keyboard - a little different from the last one, but it is a
Microsoft product and should work in Windows and MS-DOS without any
problem. But there is a problem. When I am in Fractint, I can't rotate
my zoom box. Ctrl pad + and Ctrl
pad - have no effect at all. I can zoom in, and I can skew, squash and
stretch, but I can't rotate. Also, I can't run Partobat. When I key
"partobat" at the d:\fractint

too. Even Ctrl-Alt-Del doesn't work, I have to turn off the computer

Subject: (fractint) Triple Mutation formula
Here is another nice MandelMutation that I have just concocted in my
secret lab. Imagine three random points on the complex plane. Each point
is the source of a force field, just like an electron. But it's not an
electric or gravitational field, it's a function field. At each point is
sitting a function sending out its force onto the complex plane according
to the inverse square law. Now every single point on the plane "feels" a
superposition of these three forces. You may have a sine pulling with
strength 0.7, a square with 1.2 and a flip with 2.5. When we add this
FunctionForceFieldFrenzy to every pixel of a standard mandel computation,
we can have interesting results.
When the points (p1,p2,p3) are far away the influence of the force fields
is only marginal, so we just get the plain Mandelbrot. When the points
move closer the set is more and more mutated. For exploring this formula
it is best to start with a random combination of functions with the
parameters set to at least 2. Then gradually decrease the values and see
what happens. Strangely enough the screen stays black when a cotan or
cotanh is included.
I have included 4 basic pars, as always without any artistic value
whatsoever. The first one is just an unmutated mandel to make it easier
for you to fiddle around with the Ps. The next two show increasing
mutation, and the last one is an interesting zoom.
Live long and prosper
Oliver

Yup, I'm very familiar with this problem. In my experience, this
usually happens when I'm using Fractint to edit colors in images
generated with my own software (i.e. non-Fractint GIFs, type=plasma).
Since there's no Fractint type to check against, Fractint locks up.
I submitted this bug to the wish list (and this list) a while back,
which may have prompted the L/search refinements Tim spoke of.
This happens *way* too frequently for my taste, as I occasionally
try to load a new map before typing "E<CR>" (mea culpa).

Hi Rui,
A few weeks ago, you posted the following formula:
rsp_1011{
z=3Dpixel,a=3D(pixel*(|p1|<=3D0)+p1),
c=3Da*(a*a-1)/(a*a*a*a-3*a*a+1):
z=3Dz*z+c/a, |z|<=3D64}
But your latest par/frm posting contains the following one:
rsp_1011{ ;RSP 24MAY98
bail=3D(64*(imag(p2)<=3D0)+imag(p2)),
z=3D(pixel*(|p1|<=3D0)+(2.5*pixel)),
a=3D(pixel*(|p1|<=3D0)+p1):
b=3Dsqr(a),
c=3D(b-1)/(b*(b-z)+1),
z=3Dz*z+c,
(real(z)*imag(z))<=3Dbail}
To avoid confusion, I renamed the latter as rsp_1011m but maybe you wou=

I'm no expert in dos or 'puters but at this point { since its such a small

fractint in a safe directory somewhere in my drive and delete all of fractint

Do you have an other dos program that you can test operation on?
Have you called the manufacturer of your main box?
Have you got the propper drive for the new hrdware? Things may have gotten

Hummm....there has to be a file that is incharge of keyboard interface

I'm just pokeing in the dark for possibilities....I really don't know.
