I agree.  However, just one more commentary on e-mail bombs
and then I'll shut up.

Unless I specifically request it, I NEVER want to see ANYTHING
bigger than 200KB from ANYONE.  A very good friend of mine
(since 1971) sent a 1MB Heineken Easter post card.  I chastized
him mildly (only because of his privileged position) and asked him
not to do it again, but forgave him because "it *was* pretty cool"
(and because I have known him one score and seven years).
I don't care if it's Reba and Zootie's greatest hits or nude pictures
of Janet Jackson!  (Okay, maybe I wouldn't mind the Janet pix ;o) )

The only two huge posts I would accept without issue would be either
1) a book of life's great secrets by God (you know, all of the good
stuff he didn't reveal to the Jews, or Jesus' followers, or Mohammed,
etc.) or 2) a book on how to get anything you desire by Lucifer (hey,
it seems to work pretty well for politicians, CEOs, and Bill Gates!).
(I know, Bill *is* Satan, right?  Or is it Alan Greenspan?  Or Chief
"Justice" Rhenquist?  Nope, must be Bill; the other two were born
before Hitler ate lead.)

enforce that much because the list members haven't strayed onto

We do indeed exist. We have forgiven you, but understand the reason
I didn't respond was that for a couple of days I was preoccupied with
dealing with the results of your attachment :-(. I received about 15
copies of it through a 14K modem.

I did glance at your file. It looked like you were trying to compile
Winfract. I have no interest in this because Winfract is very old,
and furthermore is just as tied to 16 bit segmented memory
programming as the DOS fractint. Porting efforts to Win95 should
probably start with the current Xfractint version, unless you are
prepared to port the assembler to a flat memory environment.

But as I said, such programming arcania are off topic for this list,
so if you or anyone else wants to pursue this, let me know by private
email.

You may find the next (May 2) FotN quite a surprise. Dr. E puts
on a special dress for a special spy mission. I think she is learning
some of Dr. J's tricks. But since she isn't a Mad Scientist, perhaps
she will not get into trouble.

Jim, I really like New Mandy Minibrot. That has a lot to explore.
If Dr. E runs into Zombie's Face on her next mission, I think
that would bring it to an untimely end.  And thanks for the map,

I've been playing with Kerry's Ghost formulas, and have
a couple to show and a Fractint bug.

Sorry about the obscure names; they're derived from a lineage
coded naming scheme I was using in 1991.

The palette is only my second bipolar palette, and is loosely
based on a Wizzle palette (did I say "palette" often enough?)

About the bug: it involves what I call "core drag", where the program
encounters the interior of the set and keeps plotting interior color
even though the coordinates should escape.  The problem is not
unique to this formula; I have encountered it in several gravijul
images.  It can be cleared by increasing maxiter, but only if all
points are outside the set.  The third image was the best result
I could get - all other pass methods were even worse.

I have included an edited copy of the formula, with apologies to
Kerry (but I figured better than getting nicked for not including
it at all).

Please leave Turner Rentz alone!  I know his mistake was painful for
everyone in one way or another on this list but I don't believe he did
it out of malice, just inexperience.  Turner if your out there I did
the same type of thing when I first joined, I posted ORGFORM.ZIP to
the list and everyone took turns ripping me a new ass for the pleasure
too.  Stick it out, stay on the list.  Any time a convenience becomes
temporarily out of reach everyone wants to scream the "REBEL YELL" and
start slashing at who/what ever caused the problem.  I took my lumps
and bear the scars but I kept going and I might have accidentally said
something of a quasi-useful nature once or twice.  E-Mail is a damn
nice thing to have and in some cases the nature of ones work might
make it a true nessessity but this is for the most part a "HOBBY"
listserv, most of us don't make a dime from FRACTINT.  It's something
we do for fun.

Yes,  alot of us receive "ALL" of our E-Mail through the same E-Mail
account but that's by choice to some degree (the free E-Mail for life
accounts work folks, I know this because I'm using one NOW, I actually
have 2 FREE accounts "AND" a regular E-Mail account with my ISP) and
can in most cases be rectified by trying one of the freebie account
providers.

I use both Yahoo and Alta Vista accounts.  They both limit your space
to about 3 meg., but Still I haven't been botched as of yet including
the BIG BAD file attachment.  My only problem is storing the posts
with Par's, MAp's & Frm's from XMISSION & Fractal-Art.  They take up 3
meg in a hurry.  Yahoo lets me know way ahead of time though so I can
clear out any old stuff and make more room.  I only keep 'em til Les
St. Clair posts them in the FML files on his C-Serve site the
following month.

Please people, Turner most likely didn't know what would happen or did
it on an impulse.  He most likely feels like hell for It.  That pound
of flesh don't come off easily and it ain't gonna be anything he gets
over any time soon either.


Just trying to be a voice of reason here.  Now you can all attack me
again and maybe turner can run for the hills.

possibility of improving the resolution of photographic images through the
use of fractel technology.  As I understand it, one can use the fractel
algorithm to simulate the pixel information that does not exist in the

Probably the best place to start would be
<A href="http://www.iterated.com"> Iterated Systems</A>,
a company started by mathematician Michael Barnlsey and
the DoD.  They developed fractal image compression software
for ? (well, you can guess) and later marketed commercial
derivatives. It used to be quite pricey, but I understand prices
have come down and various discounts (educational use, etc.)
are available.  Michael also wrote one of my favorite texts,
"Fractals Everywhere", which I highly recommend to fractal
fiends.

I'm sure others would be interested to hear about what you
discover in your search.

This is a pretty self-similar pattern. If you back off to where it is no longer

self similar, you can see nearby midgets easily. At the 10^10 zoom
above, the midgets are like 10^-20 and hard to find.  Here is my take

COOL!!! now there's an idea!  the next time you post a par - post what
music might be good with it.  Now I know everybody has different taste, but
now let's not be afraid of that!    I'm a musician so this clicks with me,
but it would be really interesting to see where the rest of the fractal
community is coming from.

It is amazing how many people across the world have a fractal mindset!  I am still working on my original pars and frms.  There are so many to look at and comment on that I am running out of HDD space real fast. Especially for the small laptop that I use.

method and the equation I used yesterday for the flexball spirals.
