Subject: (exotica) Eno-Point and Bryars:"Sinking of the Titanic".
Eno started the Point label. And my favorite "ambient" disk is on his label.
I just found this url about the CD. http://www.philclas.polygram.nl/class/446/446061.htm
This was written by Gavin Bryars. When things get stressful at work and I have to spend a chuck of time on the computer creating something fast I pop this into the CD player.
This composition is ôbuilt around the irregular repetition of the episcopal hymn Autumnö. . Since the Titanic movie has come out I have enjoyed lending this to friends who liked the movie. Some have gone bug-nuts over it and some have found it ômusic to drown by- if your on Prozacö.

Among the issues that I have with Windham Hill, outside of the flaccid
music is the cookie cutter packaging of dull, pleasant photography. It's
hard for an artist to distinguish themselves if their albums all look
alike. In this case, it seems to have worked, but there were at least two
other labels in which it didn't, Narada and JVC, I think. Were I recording
(I almost did. Waaah.), I would bristle against that idea. Windham Hill's
packaging was better than Narada's beige earth toned nightmares. The year
I worked in Tower Records, we didn't sell one of the Naradas on my shift
that I saw.
I do agree with other listers about Hassell, I rather like "Dream Theory in
Malaya" and Enya.

VH1 ranks top dance songs
NEW YORK (Billboard) - VH1 takes its "100 Greatest" countdown franchise to
the dance floor next week with a five-part series that finds Gloria Gaynor's
1979 hit "I Will Survive" as the No. 1 greatest dance song of all time. The
"100 Greatest Dance Songs," hosted by Paula Abdul, will kick off its
five-night run at Monday on VH1. Not surprisingly, tracks from the disco era
of the '70s make up more than half of the tally with seven of the top 10
positions filled by '70s dance floor classics. The '80s are second on the
list, with 25 entries. That said, the list truly spans more than four
decades, with the Ray Charles' 1959 single "What'd I Say" being the oldest
to make its mark at No. 96, and Cher's 1999 hit "Believe," ranked at No. 60,
as the newest.

For those that like "answer" rekkids, Creme D'Cocoa answers this one
brilliantly from the male perspective..Same title, different lyrics obviously
and a stunner of an ending..5 Stars..JB

Zow! I wonder if Capitol owns this, or like many soundtracks, someone
other than the original label who issued it runs the show. I wonder if
the reason we've never seen a reissue is there's no perceived demand, or
there's some sort of logistical red tape a la Barbarella. Considering the
show's continued cable re-runs, this seems fairly marketable.
I tended to view Bob Crewe as the main force behind Barbarella, perhaps
my favorite soundtrack, and may have underestimated Charles Fox. Any
other Charles Fox material out there I should be seeking?

Wasn't the "Wonder Woman" theme written by Norman Gimble and Charles
Fox? Always liked that one.

I picked up this Rod Lauren album and I was expecting an Elvis imitation
(what was that 50s hit he had?) and it's not that at all. It's
romantic/lounge. It's surprisingly very good. Kind of Johnny Mathisish. Any
comments or details about him? Is he still alive?

I was just making a CDR using some TV theme LP's. I'm not getting rid of
all of them but I needed some "keepers" to fill it out. So I come to that
Mancini "Cop Show theme" LP. Around these parts that's an in-demand slab
of vinyl. Worth at least 40 bucks. All for the theme to "The Streets of
San Francisco". All because some Dj's like to play that and then people
want it. But damn, that's fickle. The Swat Theme by Ray Conniff is almost
as good and the version by Lawrence Welk is somewhat groovier than all of
them. Same with Lawrence's version of the Baretta theme. Not that I want
to see Lawrence Welk records going for 40 bucks but it's really George
Cates anyway. BTW George made some of my favorite records under the guise
of "The Sounds of Our Times". NOW Sound classics all of them, especially
"Music for the Flower Children".

I don't know about the "greatest disco songs" list but if it excludes the
Theme From Swat and the Baretta Theme, it's way off. Right now I'm just
trying to decide who does the better version of Swat. Ray Conniff or
Lawrence Welk.

Funny you mention it, because i also just was thinking to post about that
MONSTER track.
I orderd the single, because i thought that the a side where his vers of
the Ben Tucker Bob Dorough classic. First disappointed about a lame ballard i
turned it over and couldn't believe it

I can't agree with that. It 's his best Up Tempo Soul Track that i know
from Tom Jones but to say that it is the the biggest hipshaking mother of all
records is exaggerated. Just for example some
Up Tempo BATUCADA tracks from the late 60s are much groovyer. Or
DON FARDONS I am Alive or
ST. VINCENT LATINAIRES -Broasted Or Fried by the or
BILLY HAWKS O Baby I Believe.I m Losing You......

I am.
The stuff in that field i am most after is late 60s Latin Soul and Latin
Funk at the moment because there is still a lot undiscovert that hardly needs
to be reissued. And good PSYCHEDELIC and DANCEABLE cuts are also hard to
find. But of corse a good 'normal' Pop Track is also always Welcome...just any
good cut...
I think with orgasmic pop you mean Psych Pop ? The last two DANCEABLE
Psych Pop tracks I have found where :
BILLY NICHOLLS Portobello Road on CD 'Would You Believe' Immediate,
Sequel Rec. and
PHILWIT & PEGASUS Elephant Song LP Boot Comp 'Collecting Peppermint
Clouds'
Some special discoverys from the last time that you made ?
Even STAND OUT TRACKS from the countless obscure Reissues are interresting
!!
Or something you are after ?
