Astronauty but nice
by IAN SPARKS
ASTRONAUTS had sex on the American space shuttle - with the full
blessing of NASA bosses.
The zero-gravity nookie sessions were all in the cause of finding
which positions work best in a weightless environment.
But the men and women volunteers created their own atmosphere as they went
through TEN different lovemaking tests, says astronomer Pierre Kohler.
Six positions used an inflatable tunnel with WALL straps.
They were designed to hold the lovers together - though
the other four positions allowed the couple to FLOAT
freely about the capsule.
Kohler, French author of many books on space, claims
he has seen secret files on the 1996 sexperi-ments. He says NASA document number 12-571-3570
reveals that mixed teams of astronauts were sent on four
missions to boldly go where no-one had gone before.
Well, at least not Yanks - though Russian Svetlana
Savitskaia was rumoured to have had sex with one or
more of the four men she spent a month with on the
now-defunct Salyut-7 space station in 1982.
And in 1991, Britain's first female astronaut Helen
Sharman, then 28, said she'd had "fantastic
experiences" on the Mir station with four cosmonauts.
This is not to suggest any impropriety - though one
Russian said the crew had "great fun" with Helen, who
was videoed floating around in a pink nightie!
Now Kohler, who makes his claims in his new book The
Final Mission, says: "Sex in space could have been tried
out many times.
"But the NASA experiments were possibly the first to
find the most effective ways of doing it if couples had to
spend a long time in space."

Actually, truth be told, it was Boloton. He grew up in Bridgeport, 20

Haven or not. Anyway, from this Isley thing it's obvious he's a
schmuck...Fairfield County is chock full of entertainment blockheads (read:

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- South Bay surfing legend Joe ``Dr. 360'' Wolfson,
whose cancer battle led him to attempt suicide, died in a freeway crash on
Monday. He was 50.
Wolfson was known as the granddaddy of body boarding and dubbed ``Dr.
360'' for becoming the first to spin on a wave.
In September 1998, Wolfson learned he had an inoperable tumor in his
esophagus and right lung. Two months later, he took sleeping pills and paddled
out to sea in a suicide attempt.
He was rescued and changed his outlook on life, seeking chemotherapy and
alternative treatments and resuming his passion, surfing. His story became the
subject of numerous newspaper and television reports.

*Ofra Haza
JERUSALEM (AP) -- Ofra Haza, who melded ancient Yemenite Jewish
devotional poetry with 1980s techno music to become one of Israel's
first international pop music stars, died Wednesday. She was 41.
Haza's signature song was the defiant 1979 hit, ``The Tart's
Song.'' Her album ``Yemenite Songs,'' released in 1985, was an
instant hit in Israel. Its signature track, ``Im Ninalu,'' (``If
the Gates of Heaven were Locked'') expanded a devotional poem by
17th century rabbi Shalom Shabazi into a modern love song.
Haza performed in Oslo when Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin,
Foreign Minister Shimon Peres and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat
won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994, and she sang the role of Moses'
mother in the 1998 film ``The Prince of Egypt.''

I am very sad too.
I have some vinyl albums by Ofra Haza and Fifty Gates of Wisdom (Yemenite
Songs) is probably the best and was the inspiration for the dance tracks in
"Shaday" that made her famous.
She was actually launched in the western world when UK dj duo Coldcut stole
her voice for an Eric B/Rakim remix, being one of the best examples of the
cultural and promotional function of sampling.
She was recently (1998 I think) involved with electronic artist Black Dog
with whom she did a cd single of oriental flavoured electronica.
Here's a link ot her records in CDNOW:

I'm on a mailing list about Atom Heart, who has recorded under dozens of
pseudonyms in a wide variety of styles. The previous Senor Coconut CD was a
mix of old & new Latin stylings with plenty of electronics & computer
manipulation. It was very highly regarded and is now out of print.
Some list members have complained that this new project actually sounds too
"authentic" -- i.e., one person said it sounded like Perez Prado had come to
life and recorded these Kraftwerk covers with his orchestra, and there was
little to none of the techno/electronica or hard drive glitchery added to
it.
I think Other Music is selling the new CD at closer to $30, a bit lower than
the other prices quoted.
FWIW, I have some Senor Coconut from the first CD on my compilation for the
exotica exchange ring, if you're part of that.
The string quartet cover versions of Kraftwerk songs by the Balanesque (sp?)
Quartet was very good, in my opinion.

her record that Don Was produced. Lost my tape of it after lending to a

memory. TIA for info.
Here's a translated lyric from Yemenite Songs, so y'all get a taste of what
Brian and Chuck and Nicola were raving about. Galbi from the record was a
club hit worldwide. Exotic percussion in abundance. From the liners: "By
using petrol cans and domestic trays, the Yemenite Jews circumvented the
ban on musical instruments imposed by orthodox Muslims,... Played here by
Chaim Gispan, this percussion features strongly in the striking
arrangements..." Lots of yummy congos, timbales, and other wooden or metal
percussion along with plain old drums on the disk. Nothing compares to
hearing Ofra Haza sing though. Mimi

I think Br. Cleve and the Millionaire first brought this comp to our attention
but I just want to say this is the BEST comp I have heard in some time. I avoided
getting it thinking exotica samples with modern beats would bore me. Some of these
songs are straight ahead Now Sounds and could have been released in the late
60's.or put on the InFlight Karminsky Brother Comp. Most have more modern beats
but these beats are just cool and they blend perfect with the now sounds quality of
the music.
If this is a direction modern music is taking I hope to hop on this band wagon.
These songs could easily fit on the Blow Up comp and must really sound refreshing
on the dance floors around the world.
Any other great comps like this?

Played a nice fresh copy of this last night while I was reading the book Elevator
Music. This really set the atmosphere. Storm sound effects set to an amazing
selection of easy listing straight up not stirred. I am really amazed by how
much this easy listening music developed in a parallel universe from rock.
I am now searching for the "Tootsie Roll Center" of bizarre straight ahead easy
listening. Does it get any better than this album?

I have been to most of those auction sites you mentioned. None of them have
nearly as many records as eBay. Some only have 5 LPs and maybe 20 cds. And
the prices are seem to be much higher than on eBay where there is more
competition. I think I saw that almost 200,000 records were up for auction
today on eBay.
I'd be glad to try some other place but ??????
There are a couple of record collector only auction sites but they too have
almost nothing --- 30 or so records, stuff like Hendrix on Reprise, easy
stuff.

It reminds me of the story of Mojo Nixon. One night about 5 years ago he was
performing the song "Don Henley Must Die" somewhere or other. Henley happened
to be in the audience and got up on stage and joined Nixon in a rousing
rendition of the song. Nixon, momentarily taken aback, announced that the
final performance of the song was just completed due to good sportsmanship on
the part of Henley. Nixon immediately renamed the song. Its title? "Michael
Bolton Must Die"! JB

Hi there,
I have this cd that I'd like to trade for another disc, if someone's
interested. Also a CD-R will do, and I'll send the original anyway.
The last time that I enthusiastically reviewed a disc (Ravi Harris &
the Prophets), the review was saluted in the list as a hail to a true
piece of vinylitc shit. So there's a mighty good chance you're gonna
like this. Frankly, I didn't but, you know, my leading motto has
always been "your trash, my treasure", and I guess this must also
work vice versa.
Tracks are:
Fred Bongusto: Sesso e volentieri
Fred Bongusto: Something Crazy
Nedo Benvenuti: Peccati a Venezia - 1
Nedo Benvenuti: Peccati a Venezia - 2
Franco Campanino: Je suis l'amour
Franco Campanino: L'attrazione
Gianfranco Plenizio: Valse satyrique
Gianfranco Plenizio: Tango del conte
Stelvio Cipriani: Ruta de los vulcanes
Stelvio Cipriani: Verso il matrimonio
Michel Colombier: Batucada erotica
Fran=E7ois Rauber: Antoine et Sebastien
Piero Piccioni: Preludio e canto
Alfonso Santisteban: Casta e pura
Willy Brezza: Eros Perversion
Giacomo dell'Orso: Via aerea
Piero Umiliani: Scusi, lei conosce il sesso?
Marcello Giombini: Revolucion
Teo Usuelli: Solco di pesca - 1
Teo Usuelli: Solco di pesca - 2
Stefano Liberati: Peccatori di provincia
Ciao everybody

I don't know if you'll find it better, worse or sideways, but keep an eye
out for Mystic Moods' "English Muffins" -- late 60s Brit pop given the MM
treatment, including ambient sounds recorded in (presumably) London.
Includes such tunes as:
England Swings
Colour Of My Love
[note British spelling of "colour"]
Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)
Massachusetts
and several Beatles numbers, including a string section vs. fuzz guitar
rendition of "Something".
Lurid lips cover art too.

Remember a while back I asked the list about the identity of a piece I had
on a tape by Grandmaster Flash? I had several guesses, none of which
seemed to be it so...I figured its time to put digital technology to help.
I've recorded a 25 second clip as a small (108k) .mp3 that I'd happily send
to anyone interested in solving this mystery. Wish I could offer a reward
but...
Thanks to all,

SEX IN SPACE: It's complete lunar-cy
IAN SPARKS
ASTRONAUTS had sex on the American space shuttle - with the full
blessing of NASA bosses.
The zero-gravity nookie sessions were all in the cause of
finding which positions work best in a weightless environment.
But the men and women volunteers created their own atmosphere as
they went through TEN different lovemaking tests, says
astronomer Pierre Kohler.
Six positions used an inflatable tunnel with WALL straps.
They were designed to hold the lovers together - though the
other four positions allowed the couple to FLOAT freely about
the capsule.
Kohler, French author of many books on space, claims he has seen
secret files on the 1996 sexperi-
ments. He says NASA document number 12-571-3570 reveals that
mixed teams of astronauts were sent on four missions to boldly
go where no-one had gone before.
Well, at least not Yanks - though Russian Svetlana Savitskaia
was rumoured to have had sex with one or more of the four men
she spent a month with on the now-defunct Salyut-7 space station
in 1982.
And in 1991, Britain's first female astronaut Helen Sharman,
then 28, said she'd had "fantastic experiences" on the Mir
station with four cosmonauts.
This is not to suggest any impropriety - though one Russian said
the crew had "great fun" with Helen, who was videoed floating
around in a pink nightie!
Now Kohler, who makes his claims in his new book The Final
Mission, says: "Sex in space could have been tried out many
times.
"But the NASA experiments were possibly the first to find the
most effective ways of doing it if couples had to spend a long
time in space."

the record you cited lyrics to from G.M. Flash was "Super Rappin' Theme"
on ENJOY! Records (not shouting thats how they render the label name)
from 1979.
there was only one GM Flash 12" on ENJOY, i am pretty certain. i do know
that it proceeded all of their Sugarhill Records releases significantly.
its one of my most prized early 12"'s lyrically hilarious !
