It's one of the least describable albums I've ever met. A very singular piece of work. It's not pop song oriented -- rather cinematic instead. Not very danceable either, despite the trip-hop tags occasionally put on it. Odd stuff. Scott gets his voice into some very strange areas. I still don't know whether I "like" it, but it's certainly interesting. I'd say give it a shot... it'll at least be a different listening experience. You can always trade it in.

i gave my Tilt copy away, i could not get into it.
no where near the first 4, and the Walker Bros. stuff...
i have a copy of STRETCH on tape which is ok,
no real desire to have it on vinyl or CD.
i do have Til The Band Comes In and think it is pretty good, still managing
to pull off that special something the earlier ones have.
for me, i guess its the musical arrangements that do it for me.
the newer ones just don't have that cheesy dramatic Andy Williams on LSD
(which i was told, he (andy) did do btw) magic for me.
especially avoid Climate of the Hunter from the 80's. yikes.

Hi all!
Check out "His Kind of Woman" on AMC tonight (if you're in the US, that is).
It's one of my all-time favorites.

I like the Shaggs' version, myself.

"It's been the ruin of many a poor boy..." etc. It still doesn't make sense to
me. Why should a women's prison be the ruin of any poor boy?

Mark Mothersbaugh scored the soundtrack for Rushmore. Mixed in with Chad &
Jeremy's "A Summer Song" for you soft pop-tarts and the wonderful "Concrete
and Clay" by Unit 4 + 2 are some really delightful short tracks he composed
for the film--talking titles like "Hardest Geometry Problem in the World."
This is tinkly music, somewhat baroque in feel, heavy with harpsichord,
mandolins and celeste yet very light on its feet. Makes me think of Bach
sprinkled with fairy dust. The OST also offers a taste of another
Mothersbaugh tune, "Snowflake Music" from Bottlerocket. Interesting tidbit:
Wes Anderson, the director, says in the CD booklet he originally intended
to score the film with only British Invasion tunes--initially exclusively
Kinks songs. Yet somehow Yves Montand's "Rue St. Vincent" crept in. FYI,
Mimi
PS: Michael Toth, if you're still on the list, could you comment about what
it was like to be around Akron when Devo was a local band? Thanks.

I love the folks at the record store Dusty Grooves America, they have great
stuff, they're courteous (which is rare for record dealers), they have
detailed descriptions of all the titles they sell, and their prices on CDs
are great.
Now a tiny little observational caveat.
I was just glancing at their Now Sound vinyl and I saw a used VG+ graded copy
of Ferrante & Teicher's "Getting Together" for $14.99.
Has this record gone into great shortage since last week when I nearly saw
copies at every thrift store I went into? Granted the record has it's groovy
points, but who is this person that's paying $15.00 for the VG+ copy of it.
I want to met this person, because I've got a shit load of records to sell
them.
Maybe the $14.99 price they have posted is a typo, if that's the case forget
you ever read this.

HI, Mimi:
I just got back from out of town, and someone else may
have answered . .. but the film you mention is Fritz Lang`s
The Blue Gardenia, mid-1950s, and newly released on video.
The bar is great.
Cheers,
