  173.     NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Gertie Louise Hemphill, a member of the  
  174. gospel music trio The Hemphill Singers, died Sunday of heart 
  175. failure. She was 65. 
  176.     Mrs. Hemphill formed the trio in 1956 with her husband James  
  177. Hemphill and lead singer Margaret Spence. 
  178.     The group appeared on television gospel shows and worked as  
  179. backup singers for rock 'n' roll star Little Richard.

  182.     GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -- John Lyday, a retired Greensboro surgeon  
  183. and inspiration for the character Trapper John in the film and 
  184. television series ``M A S H'', died Monday. He was 78. 
  185.     Lyday served in the 8055th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital in  
  186. Korea alongside another surgeon, Dr. Dick Hornberger. 
  187.     Hornberger later wrote a book based on his experiences under the  
  188. pen name Richard Hooker. It became the basis for the 1970 movie and 
  189. TV series ``M A S H.'' 
  190.     Although Hornberger borrowed pieces of personalities for  
  191. characters, he had Lyday in mind when he created Trapper John, 
  192. played in the movie by Elliott Gould and on television by Wayne 
  193. Rogers, Lyday's daughter Carolyn Lyday said. 
  194.     When actress Loretta Swit, who played Maj. Margaret Houlihan in  
  195. the series, visited Greensboro, Lyday appeared with her on a local 
  196. television show.

  198. Roland Stone (Leblanc) died of complications in routine surgery on
  199. Wednesday, December 22, 1999.  A New Orleans singer since 1957 and an
  200. original member of the "Jokers," Roland had regional hits with "Just A
  201. Moment Of Your Time," "Something Special," and  "Preacher's Daughter"
  202. among others.  Roland was in his late-50's.

  575. Plunderphonics, but sold it. Too experimental and industrial for me, except
  576. for a couple of  tracks, including "White Christmas".

  578.     the "Christmas collection cd's" Chuck mentioned are "radio
  579. fantastica" shows, xmas episodes made in 97 and 98. but since that show is
  580. non-stop anyway, it doubles as "compilation" CD. i didn't make a new one
  581. this year.
