There are AFAIK only two: "Sounds Spectacular" and "Hey Jude". I only
have the latter, but it really is top class, especially "Boccaccio
Soul" and "Eloise" (yes, that song) which are real stormers. All the
tracks are linked by cute little electronic bleep-blips for no
apparent reason! I've seen "Hey Jude" a couple of times, but never
"Sounds Spectacular".
If the tracks are on a sampler distributed in some country, it stands
to reason that the albums are going to be available in the same
country. It's just that people preferred to buy James Last albums over
Augusto Alguero in a ratio of about 234865:1.
The only other info I have is that one Augusto Alguero
composed/conducted a number of Spanish entries for the Eurovision
Song Contest. If this is the same A.A. (the Eurovision connection is a
clicher for my money), then maybe Spain is the place to dig up some
more of his work. Anyone?

You will find an exquisite version of Autumn Leaves, Les Feuilles Mortes,
on a VPRO release, 'Aimez-vous Ischa?' Ischa Meijer avec 'Les Izzies'.
Ischa is a recently deceased (well, it must be 3 or 4 years already...)
Dutch journalist, who wrote for Dutch papers and magazines equal to The
New York Times, The Washington Post, Time and Newsweek, Vanity Fair, The
New Yorker, that sort of thing. He also had a weekly radioshow, which in
my opinion was the most hilarious and funny thing that ever happened on
Dutch radio. He was the best Dutch interviewer ever, who's maxim was
that a good question puts every answer in its shadow. Not to mention
that he was an actor and a theatre critic as well, and a poet too,
his 'Sonnet' about his childhood is immortal and I won't hesitate to
put it in the neighbourhood of Shakespeare...
Hallo Basta, hallo VPRO, hier ligt een markt...
Cheers, Ton

The process is the same as making any other record. You go to a pressing plant
with a DAT or similar and they press it for you... You just need to find one
that is willing to press bootlegs. You get the material by recording a mint lp
and then eliminating any pops with audio editing software.
There's a bootleg of the Gordon's War soundtrack around at the moment from the
same people who've done Barbarella, Enter the Dragon etc. "Hot wheels" - yay!

Thanks for the list. It was fun to read.
Just a note however, I don't know how recent this list is, as I recall
reading that the folks listed below had died. Maybe it's just my memory
dying. I don't know how we could verify these.
List of possibly deceased Octogenarians

The following people are all at least 80 years old:
(*) indicates 90 or over.
Ingmar Bergman - film director
(*) Jimmie Davis - singer and politician
Allen Funt - "Candid Camera" host

The Izzies of course included Gert-Jan Blom, who now works with the Beau Hunks.

Actually, there's at least one more to add to the list. An album called
'Brass Laced with Strings' by Vic Schoen. It's not so much 'exotic' as it
is a very good jazzy big band sound. But since I'm a jazz fan, that's o.k.
with me.
And it's a kick to listen to with headphones!

Subject: (exotica) booting vinyl
Its a tricky one, as there are two (at least) places where the people you
are using are supposed to keep the royalties people informed (MCPS in the
UK). The cut and the pressing plant. In the early days of my old label we
used a pressing plant in Hungary via a pressing service run by a character
(a real character that is) called Mike Spenser, vocalist with the Cannibals
and the man who pressed up those pebbles boxed LP sets in the early 90's.
At the time they were desperate for currency (just after the collapse of the
Soviet Union) and would manufacture anything on the best vinyl. They'd
previously only made top quality classical LP's. And I don't suppose they
checked a thing.
I have heard that there are people with their own pressing plants out in the
sticks, you just need to know someone who knows someone. Or you can take
advantage of globalisation and differences in copyright. This was a big
deal here in the mid 80's when a load of 'Italian imports' appeared. I
don't know if its still the case but Italian copyright laws were very
different from the UK at that time, so there was a spate of people legally
pressing up, say Jimi Hendrix LPs, in Italy and then importing them here
where the copyright was owned by someone else. It was a while ago and may
have been plugged, although I know of people still using it in the early
90s at least. Pressing up boots, exporting them to Italy then importing
them back again. Far too much effort if you ask me.
Pressing your own legally owned records is very easy, and I'd point anyone
interested to 'The Manual' by the KLF (Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty) which
I think has just been re-published. Its funny and better than a 2 year
course on the music business.

Great LP too. In a '56 electronic noises kind of way. Just the sort of
thing I've loved since I was about 12.
My girlfriend says, 'Whats this? Its neither relaxing, nor tuneful'.
Shes right, of course, but completely missing the point.
