Found a site for Citadel Records, these releases was news to me anyway.
http://home.earthlink.net/~citadel/release3.htm#77101
STC 77101 - DESTINATION MOON. As the classic cover at left so vividly
suggests Leith Stevens' score to George Pal's production typifies the
science fiction films of the Fifties. Stevens use of a "Sonovox"
anticipates many contemporary synthesizer scores but remains eeriely
appropriate to the style of spaceships and spacemen which it underscored
over four decades ago. Stevens' motifs for "Outer Space" and "On the
Surface of the Moon" remain the classic Hollywood evocations of
unearthly yet serene environments.
BLACK SUNDAY and BARON BLOOD: Original Soundtracks Composed and
Conducted by Les Baxter. Newly remastered using 20-bit digital
transfers of Baxter's scores for director Mario Bava's legendary Black
Sunday and Baron Blood. With expanded notes and illustrations to
accompany the enhanced sound.
STC 77107 - CRY OF THE BANSHEE/THE EDGAR ALLAN POE SUITE/HORROR
EXPRESS: Original Soundtracks Composed and Conducted by Les Baxter and
John Cacavas. These newly remastered scores using 20-bit digital
transfers present Baxter's expressive horror themes as never before. As
Baxter wrote: "Several friends of mine have observed that there is a
passage in Cry of the Banshee which seems to cause an apparition to
materialize. I feel I must warn those who might have a fear of the
supernatural of the possibility of such an occurrence."

Subject: (exotica) This Week on The Retro Cocktail Hour
This week's Retro Cocktail Hour webcast is our annual Christmas show,
chockful of cool tunes for the Yule from Esquivel, Jaymz Bee and the
Royal Jelly Orchestra, Duke Ellington, Eartha Kitt, Lenny Dee, the
Three Suns and more.
Hear Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66 add some South American spice to
"The Christmas Song"; Dave Kahn and Melvyn Leonard's "The Toy
Parade", later used as the theme for TV's "Leave It To Beaver";
Ferrante and Teicher's manic, prepared-piano version of "Santa Claus
Is Comin' to Town" (from the rare LP "Adventures in Carols"); and
Marco Rizo's orchestra stir in a Latin kick for Leroy Anderson's
famous "Sleigh Ride". Yule love it!

i'm glad someone brought this up... does anyone know WHERE "coral castle"
is exactly?? i've always wanted to go ever since i saw the "in search of"
episode about it. it's creator was a man of mystery. he supposedly built
this whole thing out of huge slabs of coral by himself using telekinetic
powers or something. he was from some other country and just appeared out
of the blue in this remote location and bought the land after determining
that it was some sort of source of electromagnetic energy. the doors and
playground and rocking chairs are perfectly balanced. no one knows exactly
how he built the thing, he'd never allow anyone to be around when he
worked... or so the legend goes.

The Coral Castle is located south of Miami, maybe 20 miles or so from downtown.
I lived in the Miami area for a dozen years, and I believe the Coral Castle to be
the most fantastic tourist attraction in South Florida.
This place is truly a "seeing is believing" type of attraction. Any words I use,
or even what "In Search Of" showed, cannot do this place justice. I saw the "In
Search Of" episode years ago, and I thought the show was accurate.
If you go, don't go on a day when the rain is pouring because the house (or
castle) has no roof. But by all means, go to see this if you are in Miami.

Biography - Evel Knievel - A&E - Sunday night, 8:00pm, Midnight
Robin And The 7 Hoods (1964) AMC - Monday evening, 6:00pm - Rat Pack
mixture of Robin Hood, gangsters and movie musical.
Biography - Sonny Bono - A&E - Monday night, 8:00pm, Midnight
Biography - Roddy McDowall - A&E - Tuesday night, 8:00pm, Midnight
Force Of Evil (1948) AMC - Wednesday morning, 7:30am - Film noir with John
Garfield as a mob-tied lawyer.
Artists And Models (1955) AMC - Wednesday afternoon, 4:00pm - Martin &
Lewis musical-comedy with comic books, spies and dames. Namely, Shirley
MacLaine, Dorothy Malone, Eva Gabor, Anita Ekberg. Directed by Frank
Tashlin ("The Girl Can't Help It").
Blondie movie marathon - AMC - Wednesday night, Midnight to Thursday
evening, 6:00pm
Cry-Baby (1990) USA - Thursday night, 11:00pm; Friday morning, 9:00am -
Later John Waters J.D. movie tribute. Starring Johnny Depp, Amy Locane,
Traci Lords and many Waters regulars. Don't miss Iggy Pop's al fresco bath
in the washtub or the "square" kids' scary musical numbers (Rachel Sweet
appears on the soundtrack). USA Network usually seems pretty useless, but I
must salute them for scheduling John Waters on Christmas morning.
Pee-Wee's Big Adventure (1985) TBS - Late Friday night, 12:25am - Pee-Wee's
enactment of The Odyssey.
Encounter With The Unknown (1973) TNT - Late Friday night/early Saturday
morning, 2:30am - In the early 70s there was a small fad of these cheaply
produced "documentary" anthology films exploring the occult. Depending on
your mood, they can be fun, or drowsily relaxing (or simply a bore). This
one features narration by Rod Serling and makes use of heavy repetition of
footage, making it feel like some sort of brainwashing experiment. Which
brings us to...
The Manchurian Candidate (1962) AMC - Saturday night, 6:00pm, Midnight -
Excellent Cold War paranoia piece with serious political satire on the
side. Adapted from a Richard Condon novel by George Axelrod ("Lord Love A
Duck") and directed by John Frankenheimer. Frank Sinatra plays a Korean War
vet who gradually realizes that he and his platoon were brainwashed by the
Red Chinese. Laurence Harvey gives a fine tragic performance as the man
singled out for special programming. Visually very clever and loaded with
details. The brainwashing flashback scenes are really something else. Also
starring Janet Leigh, Angela Lansbury, John McGiver, James Gregory, Henry
Silva and Khigh Deigh. Score by David Amram. Not to be missed.

If I remember correctly (unless the Capt. & Cokes are taking their toll),
The gentleman who built Coral Castle was from Latvia. I recall seeing
something about it on TV (might've been "In Search Of..."). I believe this
man built it in memory of a lost love.
There was a link to a webpage on the Coral Castle at the Latvians In
America website (http://www.sveiks.com).

I'm not sure how new this is, but I just got the reissue of the
soundtrack to Arthur Penn's Mickey One, composed by Eddie Sauter and
interpreted by Stan Getz. This is a superlative release, from the music
itself (originally recorded in 1965) to the great packaging--Verve's been
doing really well in their "Master Edition" series. Highly recommended if
you like 60s jazz noir.

Subject: (exotica) Blubberry Hellbellies
The Blubberry Hellbellies were an English group who were around at the
turn of the nineties. There was a bit of a scene in North London with
flat top haircuts and check shirts, and so I assumed they came from
Camden. So with the North London / South London thing didn't really pay
much attention, but I saw them on TV once and as I recall they played
Rockabilly with a bit of a brass section. Possibly an accordion too. I
don't remember them being around for long but they were very
entertaining. Big chaps too, as you may have guessed from the name.
At the same time, same sort of scene there was Helen and the Horns,
who did a western/Doris Day kind of thing. I have one single 'Freight
Train' that I like a lot. Horrible brown vinyl.

I actually bought their record album...it was very entertaining...just like you
said, fast rockabilly influenced music. One of their best songs "Hootin' and a
Howlin'", was on some alternative country compilation.
The cover of the album was quite interested. The hellbellies were definitely
beer drinkers. One of the members posed with his guitar back over his neck in
a Hendrix pose, which lifted his t-shirt, showing his ample belly. It is one
album that I regret getting rid of. Somewhere I do have the tape though.

Subject: (exotica) copyright violation
Hello,
While I appreciate the promotion, I don't allow URLs to my sub-pages to be
posted or bookmarked. In fact, the directory names are changed from time to
time just to prevent such links from working so there's really no point. I go
out of my way to see to it that only the main URL is presented at all times in
the browser's location line. Additionally, I try to prevent the sub-page URL
from being visible when placing the cursor over a link. Obviously this is not
fool-proof and any enterprising individual can circumvent these efforts.
In spite of all my efforts, one of your visitors posted one of them, along
with the entire contents of one of my files on you site, in the archives at
http://www.xmission.com:80/pub/lists/exotica/archive/exotica.9803. Please
remove it and please try to instruct your users in your opening documents where
they make their entries that material taken from other sites without permission
is a violation of federal copyright laws. It is up to you to monitor the
contents of your site, regardless of how the material came to be there or who
posted it, to be sure it is within the law. In this case, posting the entire
document isn't really a problem, as it is a 'latest news' page and the document
changes several times a week anyway, but posting the URL is.
I'm sorry to sound so gruff when I know the person was just trying to help your
visitors, but there are other legal ways of doing it. And asking me first
would have been nice.
Thanks,
Don

True! Marry the fellow!
From: http://www.flexquarters.com/nesmith/doc/sleeve.txt
"Nesmith retreated into music. With a commercially suspect artistic triumph
already under his belt (an instrumental album of his songs arranged by jazz
great Shorty Rogers and performed by the hottest L.A. session men
whicheventually became a collector's item - for whatever reason), Nesmith
decidedon the singer/songwriter approach. "
It doesn't say what the name of the album is, though.

HONOLULU (AP) -- Rose Moe, a Hawaiian musician who brought the sounds of
the islands to world leaders around the globe during a 60-year career, died
Friday. She was 90.
Mrs. Moe, who won a Hawaiian Musicians Award as a living legend, was known
for her ukulele and guitar stylings. She began her career as a teen-ager in
the 1920s with her husband, Tau.
The Moes went on to play concerts from Paris to Rangoon.
Hawaiian music historian Bob Brozman recorded a landmark album by the Moes
in 1986 after discovering their sound in a collection of rare Hawaiian
recordings in a San Francisco basement.
That recording won a Library of Congress Select List Award.

"Sequel's Sixties Christmas" (1998) and 'twas the night before
CHRISTMAS" by Huey "Piano" Smith and the Clowns dropped in yesterday
from the Rock Classics store at http://www.portorchard.com/rockclassics
(360) 769-0456.
The Sequel compilation is full of 60's smatlzy not too exotic
christmas songs with a 5 or 6 real exotic gems mixed in. I
especially enjoyed the songs by Joe Brown & the Breakaways and the
Ivy League, Joan Regan also had a yum yum song called "Must be Santa"
"The Donkey's Tale" by Bryan Taylor also is great. 'Santa's Sleigh
Ride" by Rudolfs Reindeer is also quite fun. Then ther's Butch Moore
sing so straight you figure it must be a parody. There is a fistfull
of really bad songs on this comp. As the sticker on the cover says:
"30 unbelievable seasonal smashes. The WORST Christmas Album In The
World? NEVER!"
Huey Piano Smith is wild New Orleans rythm & blues at its best. I
have never heard anything like this for chritsmas before. Its amazing
the way he phrases "round young virgin" You almost think....... This
is one of my alltime favorite christmas albums and to get these bonus
songs on cd, Wow. This album has you really moving along to the
beat, every song is amazing, whether written by him or a remake of a
christmas classic. I've seen people that don't even like rythm and
blues like this album.
Merry christmas to all the wonderful exotica listers. Its been a
marvelousl year for posts, I appreciate this list so much and wish
everyone a joyous exotic New Year.
Easy listening in the Big Easy
Chuck

"Poodle Skrts and Poni-Tails" on Babe records (1998?boot?) came in
yesterday from Rock Classics at http://www.portorchard.com/rockclassics
Fits in nicely with the UltraChicks cds. I thought I knew a lot about
this music but I did not recognize but one song on this cd. This is a
comp of early 60's girl/girl groups from the US leaning heavily
towards the cute oldies pop sound with some rythmn & blues influenced
songs. It reminds me of the girl group comps on Rhino. If you liked
Ultra Chicks this compliments them because its early 60's, not as
swinging or now sound as some ot the Ultra Chick songs but this is a
great compilation full of 28 songs with wonderful melodies. There is
a volume 2 that just came out a few weeks ago.

Subject: Re: (exotica) copyright violation
Copyleft is better.
Okay, he is technically correct about unauthorized copying (cut & paste, go
to jail). But there is also "fair use", though I'm not sure about the exact
details of how that works (probably because it's not an exact science (and
currently the mega-corps have been working on buying new laws to eliminate
"fair use" (never mind that the copyright office itself said that new laws
were not necessary because the old laws are "technology neutral" (excuse me
while I bury myself in nested parentheses)))).
Anyway, to get into a huge snit because one's CD plug got free, extra
exposure (I checked to see exactly what the offending item was) seems a
little silly to me (3/4 of a year after the fact, at that). If it's
something meatier, like an article, okay, yeah, I would agree with getting
upset. But extra exposure for an ad? That's gravy. But I guess it's the
principle of the thing. Gotta nip it in the bud.
Now on the other hand, this big rant over links to the interior of his site
(and there is no legal basis to that complaint) -- that irritates me (I was
hoping to just keep my mouth shut and let the fumes of his brimstone
dissipate in the breeze, but dang it! this really bugs me). The fact that
he spends extra time altering filenames for the sole purpose of busting
links -- that's just sad.
1) It goes against the "free-flow of information" philosophy that is at the
root of the web.
2) For websites, links *to* them are oxygen. Being picky about how you get
them is only cutting your own throat. I don't care how anyone links to
anywhere in my site -- a link is a link.
3) If you're going to be that cranky about people using your site exactly
like you want, maybe the internet isn't the place for you. It's not a
medium of total control -- pages don't even look the same from computer to
computer. If you want total control, publishing to paper comes to mind.
4) It's a fine site, if a bit over-dosed on javascript, but whenever I see
it after this, I'll just be hearing a voice yelling, "Hey, you kids! Get
off my lawn!"
Finally, I don't know, maybe this guy's been lurking all along. But my
intuition is that he just joined the list so he could launch this tirade at
all of us. And that's simply poor manners.
Happy holidays everyone and many finds to come,

"Lift Off! with Apollo Sound", (1998 Apollo Sound) from
http://www.dustygroove.com
This is a tremendous collection of as the cover says: "Unrealesed 70's
Lounge Grooves, Scat Vocals, Funky Fusion, Easy Listening" Apollo
records has done a great service to exotica by releasing this
wonderful collection that fits quite nicely in the now sound on Irma,
Sound Spectrum, Easy Tempo world of music. There is something off the
wall on this collection, I think its the melodies. The artists
include the Polish Radio Orchestra, the Buxton-Orr Sound and other
unheard of artists. The music is upbeat instrumental or wordless
vocals.
I also have been enjoying Testcard Music Vol 1&2 on Apollo. This is
music played on British television when the testcards (in the US it
was the Indian with the color chart) were up ad no television shows
were on, just this wonderful exotic music playing all over England,
amazing to think of it. There is a ton of this music. The music on
this is all over the place but is generally soft instrumental. I know
Test Card Classics on Flyback/Chandos records were mentioned a while
ago on the list. These 4 cds are available at cdnow except for
testcard music vol 2 which I got from othermusic.
Thanks Johan for mentioning Lift Off to me. You can imagine my
surprise when it was for sale cheap at dusty.

Also theres another cd on Apolo Sound called the "Divine Compilation"
Thsi is electronic ambient music not exotica.
