Here's the same article on the Secret Museum website:
http://www.citizenkafka.com/sale/nyt.html
The next sale will be on Saturday and Sunday, November 3 and 4,
Saturday 9 am to 6 pm
Sunday noon to 7 pm
http://www.citizenkafka.com/sale/
the FREE books will be available on Sunday from 5 to 7 pm, but the whole
weekend will have remarkable objects sold cheap!
Details are at the bottom of this letter.
This event was really quite special, and much more than just a sale.
Many of my friends came down just to say hello and browse, and most all
of the "customers" who came were people who somehow were like-minded.
Over 200 people came during the weekend because friends or friends of
friends had forwarded the sales e-mail. This created a large pool of
people of 2nd and 3rd degrees of separation - an amazingly social and
interesting group.
Here's a telling observation: usually, there's a lot of competition and
veiled hostility at sales like this, even including pushing and arguing
over who saw/touched/picked up a book/record/antique first. Here, even
with valuable books going for free (one person got (free) a first
edition ezra pound from 1921) there was mainly friendly bantering and a
lot of "hey, i see you're looking for astronomy books; did you see this
one?"
In any case, this letter is a media alert (to the NY Times article) and
advanced notice for the next sale.
It would greatly help if you could forward this to as many friends as
you can. If you did this last time, it helped make the last sale a
success (see the article). I was able to pay 3 months of rent on one
room, which actually brought me up to date until November 4th! Thanks in
advance for helping, and i hope you can make it down next weekend!
take care,
Citizen Kafka (Richie)

Serge Gainsbourg has several songs with loud moaning (don't know if someone has mentioned the epic Love on the Beat).
Also the new Stereo Total record (I saw them live at the Knitting Factory and they were GREAT!!!) has a couple of songs with moaning, but these are fun and smiley moans, nothing like Love on the Beat -where you begin to think that someone was being ripped apart. The two songs are in fact the same one (about the pleasures to be had when three people share a bed), only that one of them has French and the other English vocals.
By the way, the new record is called Musique Automatique, it is great as ever and I think it's available now in the US.

Manuel

I have this quirky album. That's a good way to describe it - quirky. I
don't remember any sitars on it, but it has been awhile since I listened.
And looking at the liner notes, their are references and thanks to Harihar
Rao, a student of Ravi Shankar. I'd better go listen to "Blue Hari"
now...got a second? Let me check. No, no sitar on that one, but their is
something that sounds like a slide whistle. I told you it was quirky!
What the "New Time Element:" refers to is time signitures as 7/8, 5/4, 11/8,
etc applied to varied melodies at Georgy Girl, Sunny, Havah Nagilah and Take
Five. Pretty cool - I'd give it a thumbs up.

"Musique Automatique" is scheduled for release next week in North America
(although it's for sale at the Stereo Total concerts). Saw them last night
in Montreal, and yes they were good. As for the audience, well... I don't
know about other cities - do the young'uns dress up like it's Halloween for
concerts elsewhere? (and I don't think they were wearing special Halloween
costumes - let's put it that way...)
Perhaps I'm just getting too old for concerts. Nah....

Thanks for another edition of UotW. I already scared my girlfriend away with the "content" of this album. She thought it's horrible. I thought it's cute, although I'm not sure how to react, if exposed in reality to a girl like that. Looks like your upload specials are dedicated to word music however...

For what it is worth, I found it really boring. Nothing really out-there or
interestingly melodic. I guess it's quirky, but not in a good way. I never
play it. "Stones" is way better IMHO. I may even have a second copy of "new
time" floating around if you want it (I can't remember if I sold it).
