Then you have to buy a master.

Can't you just press a fresh pin back into the chain, or buy a new
non-masterlink for it? How did it get put together in the first place?
I'm just asking, it was my impression that a masterlink in a chain of this
sort (are they even available?) would be a compromise in its integrity. Am
I wrong?

I used to carry my expensive 35mm SLR while riding, in a backpack. I got
so annoyed with the routine required to take a photo with it that involved
taking the back pack off, digging out the camera, and putting it back that
I finally bought a decent point and shoot camera. It's a Pentax IQZoom
928. Takes really good pictures. I carry it in my Dual Star navigator map
pack - seen at http://members.tripod.com/dougb1969/dualsport/myride.html
All of the pictures on my website
http://members.tripod.com/dougb1969/dualsport/dualsport.html taken since
1997 were shot with the above camera.
The point and shoot camera allows me to get off a shot fairly quick and be
on my way riding again.
This is the best way to go, in my opinion.

Anyone take their camera with them when they go trailing?
I'm looking for a good way to transport my camera when I plonk into the
woods. I generally carry a backpack loaded up with goodies like bandaids,
water, towels, couple of tools, and some other misc stuff for myself and
two other riders.
I don't think I want to stick the camera in the backpack, though I probably
will, hell what's one more thing in there anyway. However, I'd really like
something which offers better access to the camera than the backpack
method.
I'll be packing a Nikon N70 with a 28-105mm and 100-300mm Zoom. I had
debated bringing it with last summer, but decided that my hands would be
full making sure my wife and kid were riding safely and I wouldn't have
time for any meaningful shots.
This summer will be a bit different.
Thanks
Eric

I have to agree with doug, I carried a point and shoot 35 mm. Fuji 1000 zoom
camera inside the same pack on the front number plate. I carried it there
for 6 days with riding the Michigan Trail Safari and the camera held up fine
in the bag through 5 days of sand and whoops. I've since purchase a new
front number plate bag from cycoactive. It's called the glove box. It's a
bit smaller, but I think it holds the things in the pack better and tighter
to the number plate. Cycoactive has a webpage
www.cycoactive.com
when I go riding now, I carry the cellphone in the glovebox and have never
had a problem.

Subject: (dr350) 92 S model electric capacity
I noticed that Doug B's bike had electric grip heaters. I got a Gerbing's
electric jacket liner a few weeks ago and have been using it on my TDM in
near-freezing temps -- if you've ever considered getting one of these, just
go spend the money and get one! :-)
Anyway, a quick check of my Clymer manual suggests that my 92 DR350S might
be generating 65 watts total output. That seems kind low, given that the
headlight uses about 50 of those. Can anyone tell me, was I reading it
wrong, or do the old DR's just have no juice to spare?
Thanks,
Brian

Ah, one I can answer......!
Brian Buckman asked:

Brian,
I ran into the exact same questions recently when my 1994 BMW R1100RS
met it's demise from a blind van driver, and my DR-350 was pressed
into service as a commuter and test vehicle for Gr.8 Designs.
I hated to lose the RS, as it had a large alternator and was the
perfect test mule for development work for my carbon-fibre electric
vest.... Long story, and not why I subbed or posted, but because of
that project I've got quite a bit of data on the charging system of my
1993 model DR-350. So I did some checking on the electrical system of
my 1993 DR-350. 1993 was still kick-start only, BTW.
The total wattage isn't given in the official Suzuki service manual,
that was the first place I checked. The factory manual simply says
"X" number of AC volts at the alternator. Hmmm. Not much help. So I
looked up various web pages, trying to locate reliable data on the
actual DC output.
Finally, according to the Baja Designs web page, a stock DR-350 puts
out 130 watts. Adding the lights together, there's probably about 70
watts of power that are "house loads". So there should be about 60
watts to power whatever else you want.
Then I did some measurments of my own. I don't know if the DR's vary
from model to model, but system voltage on mine is 14.4 volts when the
engine's running. So the 60 watt surplus is just a bit over 4 amps.
My vest draws 3.5-4.0 amps, which at 14.4 volts is about 50-58 watts,
so I'm cutting it pretty close. The bike has no problems charging the
battery and powering my vest - but even if you kill the battery you
won't be walking on your 92 model as it's a magneto-CDI ignition with
a kickstart.
However, I also know that a Gerbings jacket liner draws quite a bit
more than 4 amps, I think it's actually closer to about 6 although I'd
have to go back through quite a bit of data to locate exact numbers.
So you're on your own as far as what will happen. Since I haven't
gone beyond what's available with my vest, I haven't found the weak
link in the DR's charging system. You might, or you might simply find
that the lights get dim. Use caution, as I just don't know...
Here's an idea - if you use a Heat-troller to control the jacket
liner, you could find out at what point on the Heat-troller the jacket
liner maxes out your system, and then don't exceed that point on the
dial.
Related - Baja Designs also has an alternator rewind service. They
claim that the output will go from 130 watts to 230 watts, and I'm
thinking about it so that I can have heated grips and / or a jacket
liner.... But, looking at the tiny little wires that feed the battery
I do have some concerns about what the weak link in the system would
be then.
I hope that this helps.
Best,
Doug Grosjean
