CLINTON/GORE ROADLESS INITIATIVE ACTION ALERT

Following is the opening paragraph of a letter sent by a bipartisan list of
U.S. Representatives to
U.S. Forest Service Chief Mike Dombeck. The purpose of the letter, is to
secure a 120 day
extension past the December 20, 1999 deadline for the public to comment on
the Clinton/Gore
Roadless Initiative.

(CONGRESSIONAL STATEMENT) "We urge you to extend the comment period for
review of
the proposed rule-making process regarding roadless areas. We feel that
such a significant policy
requires sufficient time to review the possible impact and the appropriate
scope of the
environmental impact statement. With the current unpredictable legislative
schedule, the upcoming
holiday season, and other related rule-makings requiring comments during
the same period, we
respectfully request an additional 120 days to prepare such comments."

Please contact your own congressional delegation. Call the capitol
switchboard at [phone]
if you don't know their phone numbers (all you need is your zip code). Just
ask your
representative and both your senators to; "please ask Forest Service Chief
Mike Dombeck to
extend the comment period  for an additional 120 days on the ROADLESS AREA
NOTICE OF
INTENT."
