Subject: RE: (dr350) K&N filter
I put the K&N that I aquired from Bryan on a 96 DR 350 that was stock, and
could tell a noticable difference. I shortened the screw that holds the
filter on by @ 1/4" and had no problem installing it. I also cut the end off
of the stock pipe and removed the baffle, then welded the end back on for
cosmetics.I raised the main jet to a 135, and cut the top out of the airbox.
WOW! What a difference it made. I traded the bike to a buddy who loves the
way it runs.(I have since went to a CR 250) Hope this helps. Oh yeah Bryan,
Haven't forgot about the lunch!!

Yes, I did. Before I got the Vortex airbox, I was running a wide-cut-open
stock box with K&N filter and stock exhaust. It was a noticable
improvement, but the K&N is EXTREMEMLY FRUSTRATING to install & remove! You
have to take out the pipe from the box to the carb so you can reach in the
box from the carb side to guide the K&N screw into place. I'd go with a UNI
because they are so much easier to put on/take off.

Subject: (dr350) DRZ400E
I have done it! I went out and put the downpayment down on a new DRZ400E.
The dealer said it should arrive in mid December but I am expecting it later
in January. The deal I got was $5800 - out the door (CA tax, license, setup
and shipping). List price is $5,349 so there is not much wiggle room. Each
dealer is only getting about 3 bikes until mid-summer - some dealers have
already sold their allotment. The dealers are saying the bike is NOT set
up to compete with the XR400 or the KTM400SXC but for a notch above to steal
the show in the YZ400 and KTM 400EXC category. It is apparently VERY fast,
with a suspension that is likened to that which was installed on a 97 RM250.
The rumor that Rodney Smith was so turned on with the test bike that he
asked Suzuki to let him race one next year finally put me over the edge.
As I cannot yet afford to keep two bikes (I wish I could) I will be putting
my DR350S up for sale towards the middle of November. Here is the
particulars for those interested.
94 DR350S
2700 miles of which 200 were in dirt (I bought the bike 6 months ago from a
guy who only rode it on the street)
Street licensed but DIRT CONVERTED - I have all manf. parts in perfect
condition boxed and ready to go
Modifications and additions include:
- Vortex air box - only used once since installed
- Mikuni 33 pumper carb (jetted to 142.5) - only used once since installed
- disconnected CA emissions
- #13 front sprocket
- Dunlop 739 - only used once since installed
- new Yuasa battery - replaced when bought 6 months ago
- new rear brakes - replaced when bought 6 months ago
- Answer handlebars
- hand guards
The bike is in perfect condition. Thanks to Jesse's help with the Vortex
and jetting it runs strong (I ride with a friend who owns a YZ400F and have
no problem keeping up) and is ready for a pipe, Kouba links, springs and
gold valves.
I am asking $3,100 but will obviously take less. If there are any
interested parties please let me know.
Thanks for all of your help and guidance - this forum is incredibly
valuable. I am looking forward to purchasing one of Jesse's boxes for the
400 as soon as he can fab one and hope to be included in the round table as
a sibling of the 350.

Guy Schneider

Reasonably snug should do it, mine has been over tightened by careless
mechanics and myself and needs to be replaced now because it hex head is
more star shaped now - ie, 12 points instead of 6 .

Hi Mitja, I checked the factory manual and I could not find any reference
to the replacement
torque on this cover plug, but since it has an o'ring a reasonable snug
with an allen wrench
[metric} should be sufficient.
