Subject: (dr350) Airbox/frame/rear fender - should I seal it with silicone ? / broken screws and nuts
Hi,
About the airbox...
Between the rear sub-frame, the top of the airbox and the top of the
rear fender, there was FOAM to fill the gaps and to avoid dirt, debris
& water to get into the airbox. Now, with an opened airbox this seems
even more important.
The stock foam was in really bad condition so I removed it.
Now I am thinking about 2 options :
- - Put silicone where the foam was and seal the gaps;
- - or should I buy custom made rubber gaskets (or is it called strips
?), glue them to the top of the airbox (just like the stock foam was)
to seal the gaps.
Which one should I choose ? I was told silicone works the best...
The airbox is fixed to the frame by 3 screws. Somehow I managed to
"over - screw" one of them (from behind the bike, it's the right top
one) and it broke in two, so now I have half a screw inside the
airbox's "nut" and I just can't get it out. Any ideas of how can I
remove this "half screw with no head/top" from the "nut" ?
The thing is if I can't get it out, I will be reduced to just 2 screws
to fix the airbox to the frame and like that it just doesn't fit like
it used to.
Thanks a lot in advance.
PS - Never mind my English.

Subject: (dr350) Tuning the DR / Airbox and jetting
Hi guys,
I have opened the airbox (using Twin Air filter), remove the backfire
screen, added a straight through exhaust and have reached the final
jetting :
- - 140 main (stock was 135)
- - needle in the 4th clip
- - idle/mixture screw 2.5 turns out
The bike is pulling very strong at low/mid rpms. Throttle response is
way better ! It's wheeling on power alone in second (13/43 sprockets)
and it definitely feels stronger all over the rpm range. Even in 6th
gear roll-ons (from low rpm), it pulls evenly and doesn't hesitate a
bit. However, I think it could be even stronger at high rpms.
I have ordered a Dynojet Stage 2 kit and I am still waiting for it to
get the proper jetting (gonna take it to a dyno).
I still have some doubts about the jetting :
First, when I just blip the throttle, the engine seems to hang during
1 second before dropping to the idle rpm (although it idles fine). Is
it too lean ? I probably need a larger pilot jet (don't have right
now) or should I try 3 turns out at the mixture screw ?
When I ride for some time at full throttle, then close the throttle,
the bike backfires a little, is this normal ? What does it mean (a
larger pilot jet ?) ?
Please tell me your opinions and advice.
Thanks !

The last 1 gallon or so runs out slowly, so that my carb sometimes starves
for gas while I hold the throttle nearly wide open for sustained periods.
(Yes, I do ride like that.) More normal riding and it is not a problem
getting all 4.0 gals out of the tank. TW

Subject: (dr350) Tires
Hello all,
I am about to purchase a new set of tires for my 97 DR350SE. Since I ride
mostly off road I am going with off road tires. Here in Florida we have a
lot of sand but there is some clay and hard surface as well. I am looking at
tires for intermediate terrain as a compromise and I wondered if anyone has
had experience with the following models: Pirelli MT 44, Michelin M12, or
Dunlop D756. Any other recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks
Steve

If you are looking for a good DUAL-SPORT tire, I think that this is the best
wheel. It is very similar at MT21, but it has better yield, as much in
off-road as on-road, and very superior duration and yield in hard land
(asphalt) thanks to their new technology
Try the BRIDGESTONE TW302 and
TW301.(http://www.bridgestone-tyres.com/guide/tw302-r.htm and
http://www.bridgestone-tyres.com/guide/tw301-f.htm ). They are an excellent
commitment between yield(off-on road) and duration (in mixed use, 70 on-30
off, it can last 8000 km-5000 miles.... if your use is 50-50 or 70off-30on
I think that it can last a lot km more).
In the Bridgestone, you can read this about the TW302-301:
"Perhaps the ultimate dual purpose tyre!
Constructed using Bridgestone's patented SACT technology (Straight And
Cornering Technology); this gives a harder centre section to prolong the
centre life of the tread whilst offering a softer shoulder compound for grip
when cornering.
Tread block separation in the style of a Motocross tyre completes the
tyres's dual purpose nature by allowing off road use."
