Subject: (dr350) Corbin vs saddleman (travelcade)
A couple of questions for the group (sorry if these are repetitive): =
Which seat seems to be the best for comfort/quality, the Corbin or the =
Saddleman(travelcade). It looks to me like the Corbin is pretty good =
quality but I don=27t want the seat height lowered and I=27m pretty good =
at putting upholstery on so the saddleman do it yourself kit looks good (I =
have a =2795 DR350 SE, hope the blue is the right color). Secondly, I =
have heard that it is a good idea to put the non-vacuum gas petcock from a =
dirt DR on the DR350SE (vacuum type petcock) gas tank. What would the =
Suzuki part number be for the non-vacuum style for use on my =2795 SE?
Thanks in advance.
P.S. The Dual Star crossbar mounted tank bag/fanny pack gear is top notch =
stuff. Just bought it a week or so ago and the quality and fit is =
outstanding. Lots of room to play with=21

Couldn't you accomplish the same thing by setting the vacuum petcock to
"prime?"

White Bros. has one for the DR made by Pringle. Cost: ~$60.

Subject: (dr350) To Norm: DR350 forks
June 23
Norm,
What you've explained about the stock front forks: " too much high speed
comp. and not enough low speed rebound" seems right... I'm assuming you are
talking about the 90-93 damper rod design??.... Am I right in that the 94
dirt model got the better cartridge design forks?? My 91 dirt DR has
Race-Tech Emulators set to a full 7 clicks (7 turns on the spring on the
Emulator for those of you who have them) meaning I have compression
adjustability and am mostly happy with the amount of compression damping at
that setting... although abit stiff when hitting rocks which in my mind would
be when the fork acts in the "high speed" compression part. Anyway...
what I believe I'm missing now is "low speed rebound" (i do have .43KG
springs, i'm 205lbs.) How/what is done to damper rod forks to increase
rebound? I've tried 20wgt oil and even welded up the 1 rebound hole in the
rod then redrilled it 50% smaller on some shop guys advice...?? still not
alot of rebound... I like the wording you used about the RM forks..a
"controlled ride" versus pogoing thru the whoops... After riding John Gills
RMX forked DR I now have experienced the difference of "controlled"
suspension... For now I'll keep trying to improve my bike as is.... so my
question is what does a suspension shop do to increase "low speed rebound" on
a damper rod??
Thanks, Guy

Mark,
In my opinion, the Corbin seat sucks for any long term in the saddle time. It's steeply angled so that it slides you to the tank and if you have enuff sticky clothing on so it won't do that then your Male Orgons are in a bind. ha ha ha. I took a Corbin and had a friend modify it to build me a butt pocket where I like to sit. It doesn't interfer with stand up riding and if you have to do 100 miles of pavement to get to an offroad riding area, it won't kill ya. I just did a Plus 1100 mile trip in 3 days on my '97 DR350SEM and my butt wasn't happy but it wasn't crying either. Ha ha ha...
Don' t forget Sargent Seats in your quest to find the seat you want either.

Subject: (dr350) DRX441 FS
Gents,
I have made plans to enter competitive events (enduros) and have put my project
bike up FS. Yes, I'm going over to the dark side of the force (how's that, Norm
;-) now that my emphasis will not be trail riding w/my kids nor DS events. As a
replacement, an RMX or other similar enduro-focused machine will suffice.
Building the DR up to a formidable weapon has been fun, but it is time for me to
move on to something commensurate with my upcoming plans.
Don't get me wrong: the DRX441 is a whole different beast - it's the one nagging
thing that the extensive mods (RMX suspension, 441cc kit, Magic Air box, bla bla
bla...) did not change: weight. My 150 lb, 5'-8" bod has to work more than I
want to when the trail gets overly nasty and demanding - like deep sand whoops
and tight goat trails.
So what do you guys think I should ask? I want to be reasonable here, though shy
of $7k has been invested. It's a '94 dirt version, with extra parts (tank, seat,
etc.), 2k dirt miles. Me thinks $3.5k. Sound reasonable?
I'd consider trading forks/shock/suspension if anyones open to that.
Write for pix & details if interested.
