Subject: (dr350) Upgrading the DR
Hi guys,
I have a DR 350 S ('93), stock engine and Twin Air filter.
I have decided to go for the Arrow alum. exhaust full system and for a
Mikuni 36mm Flat side carb.
Before I order these parts, can someone tell me if I will be able to
use the stock throttle with the new carb ?
I will open the top of the airbox and have it re-jet.
Now, about the suspension... Anyone heard about TECNOFLEX ? Are they
any good ? Which are the best shock / front springs to replace the
stock ones (Ohlins, WP, etc...) ?
What are Kouba Links ? Is there a homepage where I can see them ?
Should I buy a new shock or go with the Kouba links (assuming money is
a secondary issue) ?
I also need a plastic tank. I am thinking about Acerbis. What do you
guys think ?
Please, feel free to e-mail me any advice and/or suggestions about
these matters !
Anyone know good company sites (in Europe) that sell these parts and
ship internationally ?
Thanks !

if there a difference in the lips of the rims of road wheels and dirt bike
wheels?

Oh, dont worry about it, I am not being mean or anything, just
kidding, sorry!! :^) At least you get to ride that cool black phantom
dr350. I'm stuck with the standard US blue and white one.
By the way, is that black one avalable in the US? Has anyone changed
their dr's colors?

Hello, Patrick. The truth is that I already knew that it was very bad
translated (as this message :) ), but I didn't believe that nobody bothe=
rs
in telling it to me ;). Anyway, thank you. Soon I will translate it to a
perfect English, but at the moment, you will have to continue destroying
your brains :).
Regarding the black color... I sit down it, it is not sold in USA (or tha=
t
believes... I have never seen a picture of a black DR in the USA...). It
would be possible to convert you white/purpure DR to the black colour , b=
ut
I think that it would be too expensive... You would need to buy all the
plastics of the European model, to paint the deposit and even to paint th=
e
chassis of gray color... I believe that it is not worthwhile.
By the way... somebody can to tell me as much as it costs the rear rack
(original equipment of Suzuki) in the USA or another country? Here, in
Spain, it costs about 205 $it USA... what I believe that it is an atrocit=
y.
Anyway, I have made a rear rack for my DR, and I didn't find difficult
anything (soon you will see it in my web)
Does some of you have some web about Suzuki DR350? If it is this way, sen=
d
me the address, and I will put a link to your page.
Does somebody have some magazine of their country in which they test the
DR350? Would I like that somebody, if it is possible, send me scanned fo=
r
e-mail as me I made in my web with the spanish magazines?
(do you transform the file BMP to JPEG and will it occupy about
150kb)?
Bye.

Subject: (dr350) Newbie Questions
Hi all,
I just bought a '96 DR350SE, and have a couple of
questions. The bike is 100% stock, with 2900 miles.
The front brake feels spongy, and is weaker than I think it
should be. I changed the fluid (which looked original);
removed the caliper, and cleaned everything up, and
sanded the glazing off the pads (the pads look to have
about 50% left) -- none of which helped. Any
suggestions?
The bike takes a ~very~ long time to warm up. Once
warm, it runs great. I replaced the plug (NGK CR9EK);
and washed and re-oiled the air filter (Silkolene Foam
Filter oil). Does it need re-jetted?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Try installing a braided stainless steel brake line. The rubber lines tend to
bulge when the brakes are applied.

Bryan;
Given that many street bikes of the high performance type have cast wheels,
they are better able to use the tubless tires. It would be a leaky
proposition at best to put tubless tires on a bike with spokes. Also, unless
you never take your DR off road, tubless tires don't respond well to low tire
pressures (as you might run when going off road). If the bead were to lose
it's seal from the rim, say when hitting some trail trash, you'd lose a lot,
if not all, of the air in the tire. If the tire that goes flat is the
front....well, you can imagine.

I missed the original post, but for what it's worth... Modern
trials motorcycles use tubeless radial rear tires, and tubed
bias-ply fronts, both on spoked rims. The rear rim has an
inner seal over the spoke holes, and doesn't have rim
locks, but the front does. I typically run 4 1/2 psi in the
rear, and 7psi in the front, and the only flats encountered
are due to punctures.
How does this apply to DR350's, you ask?! The rear trials
tires are sold in 2 versions, tubed and tubeless -- and
there is a visual difference between the beads. So, even
if you could seal the spokes, the bead shape isn't
compatible.
Hope this helps,
Gaylord

Subject: (dr350) DR Day
Those of you who in Southern Calif. who couldn't make it on Sunday June 13,
to the DR get-together in Hungry Valley missed out. Trail host, John Gill
led us up Alamo Mtn. for views of Lockwood Valley, Mt. Pinos and Frazier Mtn.
Off-camber turns and ruts and rocks on the fireroads made for great testing
time on our Drs. I learned so much from John and his heavily-modified DR:
MagicAir box, modified stock exhaust, 441cc kit, WER damper... the first time
I gassed it in first gear I almost went over backwards! The most important
change made to his compared to my stock DR though is definitely the
incredible stoutness and straight-line stability of his front-end..the RMX
upside-down forks and triple-clamps. My spindly 43mm stock forks even with
26lb springs and Rac-tech Emulators adjusted to full comp. just don't give
the confidence that RMX forks give because they simply are too flexy.
DirtBike July 99 issue seems to agree in their Lightweight Fourstroke
Shootout as sadly our DR is at the bottom of the list saying the bike is like
a "pinball at any pace above sedate" and a "chassis that really needs a
re-write" Where to find an RMX front end and can I afford it ? will a
Summers Racing fork brace @ 200 bucks be an alternative? I do know Johns DR
doesn't even feel like a DR... it's a bike that's much faster and easier to
ride than a stock DR and now I'm all fired up about improving mine... I also
got to spend some time on the Suzuki RMX, as you all know a completely
different style of riding is used on the 2-stroke and the motor had to be
kept in a narrow RPM band or I would bog down low or overrev on top... not as
forgiving as the fourstroke DR motor.
