Subject: (dr350) lethal weapons

I took a spill in some deep sand yesterday and hurt my shoulder pretty
bad.Went to the ER and nothing broken or seperated thank god.I have been
making the mistake of riding off road with the stock tires.Anyway my
point is we all fall at one time or another but if you are an SE owner
your mirrors become lethal weapons on impact.That is what my right
shoulder got driven into when I crashed.Two words on the stock mirrors
LOSE THEM if you have not already.There are fold down mirrors that are
avialable to get the damn things out of the way altogether.Gonna order a
set today along with tires and a good chest protector.I always wear a
helmet but that was it.Now I am gonna buy some more protective gear
something me and my buddys mistakenly overlooked.Guys,don't learn the
hard way like me it could have been worse this was my wake up call wear
the right gear when you play in the woods!!!!

My 98 DR350se and I got horizontal the other day while trail riding. I
managed to keep the bike running and after picking it up it would just
bog out if I tried to rev it over about 2000 rpm. It took a good 5
minutes before it would run right. Here's where it gets weird- I
finished riding the trail and rode home at about 40 mph and it was
running OK. I shut it off for about 30 mins. and then rode it again and
it was running really rough again. This isn't the first time this has
happened, eventually it seems to clean itself out and then it runs fine.
Anyone else had this happen? If so can someone tell me what is causing
it and if there is anything to remedy it (besides not falling down).
Also does anyone have a good routine for restarting a hot bike after
falling down?

    I have a '98 SE and have had a similar problem, mine finally quit
running about the time I made it to the dealer, and that never happens,
usually a bike will run fantastic with in about a block of the shop.

    the mechanic actually couldn't get the thing running after the bout of
popping and acting like a two stroke with a fouled plug. I stayed and we
changed the plug, looked for water in the wire harness, drained the
carb, and rubbed our chins. The bike finally restarted, and ran just as
poorly. I left the bike for a day, he went through the carb and checked
a few other things, but never found the problem. When I picked it up it
ran fine, he gave me the old "try it and see how it works".

    the only time it did it again was in the woods in some really tight
stuff it sputtered and popped through out the day and has never done it
since. I wish I could tell you exactly what the mech. did but he said it
was apparently a piece of dirt or something in the carb that he didn't
see but cleaned out.

This has happened to me (more than once).  I think that gas gets into the
airbox.  If you squeeze the airbox drain gas usually comes out.  Treating it
like it is flooded (WFO throttle) helps clear it up.  Another good reason to
stay vertical.

Anyone out there use a K&N air filter?The guy at the dealer told me it
would let sand in the carb.My friend uses one in his quad and that is
the only place he goes is sand pits with no problems with hs filter.Any
sugg.

Yes; plenty of welding done here. I went from non-braced, to an inward braced,
to an in-and-out braced, then back to non-braced swing arm. From my experience
you will gain little stability from all of the bracing, certainly not what you
might think; it still had the side-hop even after all of my bracing efforts,
just *some* less, certainly dissapointing after all of that work. May I suggest
you try the Kouba Link - much less trouble and risk.

BTW, Norm is not paying me to say this (I paid full retail), I'm just a
satisfied customer that found a solution, and wanting to save you & others the
trouble and expense. Of late I have moved on to RMX legs since the front forks
have not lived up to my expectations; an RMX shock went in to balance my setup.

Has anyone had experience with welding the braces on the DR swingarm to make
them semi-boxed?? Kinda like what Scotts or Thumper would do?? I can weld
aluminum, just wondering if y'all use a jig or what you do to avoid
warping.....can cut the braces to size as well....Help!!

People have been talking about a 385 kit.  Sounds like a good choice for
me.  I was wondering who makes it, the price, and a number or website

?Dirt or water in the carb bowl, or tank?  I have had water in my fuel
several times, with similar symptoms.  Try draining the bowl, and a can of
Heat in the tank.  TW
