Wayne,
Good suggestions. I ride primarily for fun, dual sport type riding. While I
agree with what you said in principal, I cannot resist the urge to "play" a
little more with my "new" toy and try new tricks. Maybe if I keep it long
enough, I will go with a big bore kit and trick out the suspension also ...
hehe, just for kicks and giggles (or shits and grins depending on how you
like it!). hard things to resist after reading this list and an older
website I found when I first bought my bike. It did occur to me that however
anyone had their DR setup, they seem to like just the way it was stock or
trick, so I am not in too big a hurry to jump into more mods when I could be
out riding! And, BTW, I too love this bike just the way I found it!

The DR petcocks have a vacuum operated petcock when in the on and
reserve positions. That is----the valve opens when the engine is started and
closes when the engine stops---there is a vacuum hose that goes from the
carb to the petcock, so you never have to mess with turning the petcock on
an off.
But----The prime postion bypass this system and lets fuel flow to the
carb even if the motor is not running and there is no engine vacuum.
You ask why this??? So if the bike has sat a long time the fuel will
evaporate out of the float bowl and there will be no fuel in there to start
your bike----so you switch to the pri postion. If your bike just won't
start---try switching to the pri position before looking for some other
problem.
That's what it's for!!!!!!!

I've got a trivia question about my 90 DR350S.
On the bottom of the shock where it bolts to the linkage there is an

<------>

Ten
Does anybody know what this means, if anything?

It is to adjust you shock rebound dampening I do believe. There is an
adjustment----when you turn it in the direction of the H (Harder) the
rebound gets harder---likewise S is for softer.
I hope I'm not telling you wrong here---cause I wasn't sure if the one
on the bottom is compression or rebound dampening. I think the one on the
top is compression dampening. An owners manual would clarify this I'm sure.

Subject: Re: (dr) Another jetting question
Craig,
Some people just need to make what they have go faster. I did that for
ten years as a professional driver in the sports car endurance races
such as at Daytona and Sebring. I know what speed and power is, and what
it is used for. I too, now ride primarily for fun.
I did rework the suspension, as for my riding weight, and perhaps for
everyone, it lacked in that area. That's not to go faster, just make it
more comfortable, and controllable. I also changed the front sprocket,
but not to go faster, just to more easily climb and more important, for
compression braking going down steep hills.
If I had wanted to go fast at Moab, I would be bringing my BMW R100GSPD
instead of the DR. I've ridden it in Moab, and all over the back roads
of Baja, and it will go fast there. But for going "sightseeing", speed
isn't an issue. There's other places to race if that's what people need.
But with my stock bike I don't have any trouble keeping up riding the
desert here in Southern California.

Well unfortunately i'm over here on the east
coast(Long Island N.Y.) and he is in Oregon and I
don't think i'll get the pleasure of meeting him in
person. But this is what makes the internet so great
for us.He is one of the nicest guys I've never
met.I've called him daily on a jetting problem and I
never got anything but pleasant advice and willingness
to help.Whenever he posts it would be wise for all to
read as you always learn something. In the fall I hope
to be getting the 435 kit installed by him.My buddy
just got his back and let me say it rips.Loaded up
with torque.

Hello All,
I'm searching for a set of mounting brackets (only one actually) for acerbis
rally pro. My one bolt is stripped and subsequently so is the actual
bracket. I've talked to my local dealer and they only sell the complete
acerbis set. I need this because of a recent crash (no damage, just the
bracket twisting and then loosening).
Any help would be appreciated!!

Hi Ben, Is there an adjustment screw between and slightly below the H and S
If so you have the dirt model shock if not it is the same clevis but not
machined for the rebound mechanism components. Which does not normally come

Wayne,
If your stock DR works fine for you, that's great. My DR was stock for a
while and I thought it was very uninspiring to ride. I put the 435cc kit
in it and it's a whole new bike, and I have a LOT more fun on it than I did
when it was stock. So I guess the answer to your "why bother?" question is
that, for some people, its worth the $$$ and trouble to modify their bike,
for whatever reason.
Different strokes for different folks.
