I paid $250 for my Megamax just a few weeks ago and feel it gave me a much
better response- even with the stock jetting, airbox, no other engine mods.
They say this exhaust is discontinued- I searched a while before I found one
at Motorcycle Accessory Wharehouse (MAW).

Scott and the rest of you, I think I got the last one they had. I jumped on
it when I heard you bought one from them, and at that time they said they
had either one or two left.
In my case the head pipe is larger than stock so it will need work to fit,
Jesse does this at his shop too. The Collar comes off and gets enlarged on a
lathe or something, and welded back on again. Then he seals it with the
red RTV stuff, because you lose the O-ring seal in the process.
I can't wait to ride it. The bike is so awesome already it should be quite
nice with the new pipe on.
Plus, it'll be the only part on the bike that's still shiny, at least for a
day or two =)

Jeff said that his stock pipe was larger than stock so I believe he had a
different issue than you. I think I know what you're saying because I, too,
had a problem with the header pipe being too larger - sort of. You can't
use the stock header pipe with the OEM gasket and an FMF pipe. But mine
fit pretty well without any gasket at all (no leaks, anyways).

Hi Ric, the stock headpipe will fit the mega max ok but the oversize
headpipe will not so I have to enlarge the area where the headpipe slips
into the megamax. I just cut it off, bore it out to fit the headpipe and
weld it back on. If your headpipe will not slip in it is not the stock head
pipe. The oversize headpipes are 1&1/2 inches in diameter vs 1&3/8 inches
for the stock one.

Hmmm ... I think this sort of speaks to a concern that I have about a
'96 DR350 I recently bought with a SuperTrapp EAR already installed.
The fit between the header pipe and the muffler is not great (i.e.,
it's pretty loose) and it appears there is no gasket or mesh sleeve
where the two pieces join. Has anyone else with a SuperTrapp noticed this?
Has anyone tried to eliminate the extra clearance by fabricating a gasket
of some sort?

Hi Mike, What I did was take the mesh sleeve and slip it over a round piece
of steel and gently with a hammer tap it all the way around so it becomes
thinner. The object is to make it thin enough to fit between the headpipe
and the EAR reciever then apply the clamp this will seal it up. On a
different note I believe I was supposed to send you some other items do you
recall what it was, I did send the biscuit you should have it by now. Let me
know if I missed something.

Subject: (dr) SuperTrapp discs - power vs. noise vs. jetting
Hi List,
With all this chatter on the list recently about aftermarket exhausts,
let me ask your opinion about fine-tuning of a SuperTrapp exhaust.
A few weeks ago I bought a '96 DR350 with a SuperTrapp EAR. I'm in
the process of moving my Cycle Gear air box over from my '91 DRS.
I've really not even had a chance to ride the '96 yet other than up and
down the street, but I can tell already that the exhaust is too loud
for my liking. The EAR came to me with 8 discs. I'm planning to experiment
with removing some discs to get the noise level down. Do any of you with
SuperTrapp experience have a feel for how much difference disc removal makes
in terms of noise and power? And do you find it necessary to make significant
jetting changes when adjusting the number of discs? I'll have the bike out
in the desert for a few days next week and will do fine-tuning at that time,
but I'm hoping that someone on the list can give me some guidance in terms
of a good initial setup.
Also, I've tried to pull the core out of the EAR to check the packing but
I can't get it out. I removed the 6 screws and the end cap and disks, but
still could not get it out, at least not with just a moderate amount of force.
Is it normal for the core to be difficult to remove?
