  50. My recently acquired '97 DR350SE has a front brake that feels mushy.  I have
  51. bled it, but there was no difference.  I think I've read somewhere that it's
  52. the brake line and that they are all like this - is that true?  Can anyone
  53. recommend a good source for a bolt-on aftermarket hydraulic line?  Thanks in
  54. advance.

  73. Funny you should mention this because I've always felt that my '91
  74. DR350S had marginal brakes at best.  I've always changed my brake
  75. pads every other year or so and have also replaced the brake fluid at
  76. about the same interval.  None of this made a significant improvement
  77. in the braking action.  Then a few weeks ago I bought a '96 DR350
  78. that had been very well cared for.  It's the dirt version, but it
  79. has essentially the same brake components and stuff as my '91 DRS.
  80. The very first time riding it I could tell in an instant that the
  81. brakes were light years better than those my DRS.  The difference?
  82. The previous owner installed a Fastline front brake line and also
  83. drained the entire front and rear system to replace the fluid with
  84. Dot 5 silicone fluid.  I would have never thought that an upgraded
  85. brakeline and different fluid would make such a big change but
  86. apparently it does.  The guy I bought the '96 from has a large
  87. collection of motorcycles and commented "Yeah, whenever I get a
  88. new bike -- especially a go-fast street bike -- the first thing I
  89. do is swap out the brake lines to get the thing to stop reliably."
  90. Wish I'd known that years ago - I would not have had to live so long
  91. with the marginal brakes on my '91!

  130. While at the Powersports Industry Show in Indianapolis this past
  131. February, I discovered two neat new dual sport lighting units from UFO. 
  132. They are a headlight assemblies and taillight/fenderette assemblies
  133. featuring integral turn signals.
  134.  
  135. Although I doubt that these units are D.O.T. approved, many of you may
  136. find them suitable to your needs.
  137.

  139. The headlight assembly really cleans up the front end of a bike. And, the
  140. small, integral turn signals should be extremely durable, safely tucked
  141. out of harms way.  When used in conjuntion with a small, round
  142. speedometer assembly (Baja Designs) to replace my stock DR350SE headlight
  143. and instrument assemblies, shaved nine pounds off of the front of the
  144. bike.  There are a few glitches with the headlight assembly though:  it
  145. is not a halogen unit, though bright (replacement bulbs are cheap!); the
  146. mounting straps are for inverted forks, so you will either have to modify
  147. them with zip-ties, or use O.E.M. mounting straps for an off-road DR 350
  148. or an RMX 250; the unit also sits a little low, so you will probably want
  149. to fabricate some upper mounting brackets (possibly from the original
  150. front turn signal brackets) in order to raise the assembly a couple of
  151. inches. 
  152.  
  153. Although I have not yet received one of the taillight assemblies, it
  154. should be just what the doctor ordered in most cases.  It looks similar
  155. to the O.E.M. unit found on KTM RXCs, fitting under the rear fender, and
  156. with a small, black "fenderette" just the right size for mounting a
  157. license plate.  Although the taillight assembly will not work very well
  158. with stock DR 350 rear fenders, it should work wonderfully with the new
  159. MX style rear fender from Maier plastics.

  203. Exhaust looks great, as does both your bikes.  Have you taken the 650 off 
  204. road much yet; if so, how does it handle?  Looking at one of your pictures it 
  205. seems like your rear tire is taking some street abuse. Are there many public 
  206. places to ride in Indiana?  I visit Chicago each year and the only off-road 
  207. spot we have found is near Oswego, about 90 minutes SW of Chicago.

  234. Several years ago, Suzuki changed a few things on the DR SE suspension, the
  235. forks I believe, using the same as the dirt model, allowing more
  236. adjustability.  I may not have gotten the details correct here, so correct
  237. me if I'm wrong.  What I need to know is what Suzuki did to upgrade the SE
  238. suspension and what year these changes were made.

  416.     The 98-99 models of the DR350 do have the same suspension as the dirt
  417. models. I still changed the fork springs to Progressive Suspension
  418. units, and put the Kouba Links and a heavier spring on the rear. Gotta
  419. tune it for your riding weight and style, you know.
