Dave -
I've put several 10 hour days (on- and off-road) on a Suzuki gel seat -
beats the tar out of the factory saddle for miles++. The only drawback (if
you don't mind the lower standover, that is) is that it's more difficult to
scoot forward over the tank. As far as DR/KLR/GS, I'd go with the DR.
Stick with 95 and newer, as finding parts for the older models is a painful
process. For racks, aluminum bags, highway pegs (?) etc., check out Happy
Trails (www.happy-trail.com, I think).

Hi,
My DR 350 Suzuki manual tells me that there is an oil strainer in one of
the front hoses that should be taken out and cleaned whenever the oil
and filter is cleaned. Is it necessary?
For those of you wanting to lubricate cables I have just tried for the
first time one of those devices that locks at the end of the cable and
allows you to squirt aerosol grease down the cable - brilliant - a bit
messy, but so straightforward and quick.
Next job the tappets, that one I'm not looking forward to!
Regards,
Iain - DR 350 SEW 99

Hello,
Clean the oil strainer for the first oil change, I found a few specs of
paint from the frame in the screen. After that I would only check it every
third-fourth oil change. It does not collect much, unless you let the oil
go to sludge or drop something in the oil filler.
Remove the skid plate, carefully loosen the hose clamp and remove the hose.
Have an oil pan under, because its a little messy. Then remove the strainer
with an open end wrench (17 or 19mm?).
Hope that helps,
Jeff Corsaro in San Diego
