Hi all,
I had the chance to test ride the DR400Z last week. What you have to say is
almost exactly what my I though of it.
The digital speedo/trip-odometer was neat, I love gizmos myself. I
might look up the price of the unit, if it is reasonably priced (I doubt it,
but Suzuki parts prices are usually priced below Honda and Yamaha in most
cases). I would like try to retrofit it on other bikes.
The motor was the best part of the bike, ran very smooth and pulled like
a KTM LC4 620. The transmission was a little notchy on shifts, I think it
should free up once the shift drum and forks wear a little. The seat
definitely looked like a 125cc moto cross seat, good for looks/style and
stand-up off road riding, not good for a dual-sport bike. I am sure the
after market seat manufactures will make a plush dual-sport seat, but I
guaranty it will look ugly on the narrow DRZ. I was a little disappointed
with the weight. It definitely is heavier than my heavy-weight 260 lb
electric start Yamaha TTR250 trail bike and felt a little heavier than a
DR350SE, but than again it is a 400 and not a light weight air-cooled 250 or
moto-x bike.
I talked to Baja Designs, they have a dual-sport kit in the works for
the dirt only models. The connector on the alternator is a proprietary
design that is only used by Suzuki, so they have to have it tooled. I am
sure it will work good, because all the DRZs have high output three-phase
alternators.
2.6 gallons sounds reasonable for a stock tank. An after market tank
will have to grow fat to accommodate more fuel, because you have the
radiators tucked in front of it.
Any ways if I had money to burn right now on a dirt bike now, I would
buy the DRZ over a Yamaha WR400, or a Honda XR400.

Hi
I'd just like to say a few comments.Don't do like I did ,
using hard compound(sintered metal) rear brake pads.
I used a one pair of Ferodo sintered pads, and now
my DR's rear brake disc has almost worn out.
I prefer a low front fender on my DR. The cylinder gets
better cooling and the bike is more stable on the high
speed rides especially when it's windy. On the negative side
low fender makes my bike look more like super motard bike
than enduro.I assume in the muddy conditions it wouldn't
be practical. But I ride mainly gravel roads and dry forest
trails, there I have no problem even with branches.
Thanks for the patience

Okay,
I saw a lot of DRZs at Daytona, and even one of my riding buddies went out
and bought one. They may be a great bike but...........Couldn't someone at
Suzuki styled it a little different? Heck, It looks like a 1989 RMX250!

Hi all,
has anyone found a good way of smoothing scratches in plastic fenders or
side panels? (without painting).
You can get rid of the scratch with fine sand paper, but that leaves a matt
finish that needs polishing somehow.
Any ideas would be appreciated !
Makes a change from tire questions doesn't it ?
Thanks,
Steve

Try a product called Plastic Renew. It works great.

I think your problem is not the rev limiter but as
Jesse said your main jet is to big.Drop one jet size
and I think your problem will be gone.To big a main
jet and your motor will stutter up top and seem fine
down low. When you nail it look for any black smoke at
all coming out of the muffler a sure sign.

John,
Thanks. I checked last night and I do have a 137.5 main in the tool box. I
will try it this week-end and
see if it does the trick.

Hi,
just to make it sure: a 96' DR 350 SE has not throttle cables with
teflon
(I hope, it's named teflon in English too), thus I can lubricate it
with oil - right?
