I know a lot of ya'll don't think this applies to you. But dual sporting is
more than Adventure Touring, It's more than Street Legal Trail Riding, It's

Norm...

#1 The rear spring from White Brothers is on order.. 2 to 3 weeks!.. and I'll
still have to machine a collar to make up for a difference in diameter... and
it'll be shorter than stock...  one of the problems when buying aftermarket
shocks..(Progressive 420).. I would've stayed with the  stock shock..

#2 The 420 is a  17.2 inch long shock.. measuring without the spring I get
close to 9 inches of rear wheel travel...(#2 notch on the chainadjuster)  how
long is the stock dirt DR shock? and will the Kouba Link affect this number?
( You once said the links will pick up 1 1/2 inches of useable travel)...
My Clymers manual claims 11 inches of rear wheel travel!! Liars!

I can't really address your sprocket and toolkit cover questions, but I can
answer this one:
1 - they'll slide if you go around corners at normal street-bike speeds or
use your brakes with any force
2 - they'll make a lot of noise
3 - they'll wear out ("square off") really quickly
4 - and, of course, you'll probably be breaking some motor vehicle
regulations in your state

I have a '95 DR350SE that is under a conversion to the dirt only. The guy I
bought it from had the forks sent out to ProCircuit for a rebuild/revalve. My
question is this, what weight oil should I use? He and I are about the same,
weight wise, so I'm not sure on which to use.

I use dirt knobbies on the street, always.  They wear quickly, but I burn
them down to the casing, so I still get decent miles.  I have on occasion
put street tires on for a long asphlalt trip, but not often.

You can't lay into turns with knobbies like you can with street tires.  One
way to look at it is: knobbies have more grip on  asphalt than on gravel.
So if you enjoy gravel, then asphalt is no suprise.  Wet asphalt (with
knobbies) is a different story....

Hi Bill its the first that I have heard of this happening to a DR350.  I
would do some serious checking on the canister,  hoses vents etc before I
went for the 300.00 CDI I will check and see if I can do better on the price
in case you really need one. What preceded the battery change long winter
storage? maybe we can figure this out getback to me .

I'm wondering how many disks most people are running on their DR250Ss.
I'm also getting some soot with 9 disks. Is this normal or has someone
been into this bikes carb and rejetted a bit too rich? Air filter is
clean. Haven't pulled the plug yet :(....

    Usually the CDI boxes work or they don't work.  If you think it is an
electrical problem you can try the following.  Check to coils (both the
ignition and magneto) with an ohm meter and make sure they are with in
factory specs, before your replace the CDI box.  Also check the wiring to
the kill switch and replace the spark plug. You might try to get another CDI
box to test on your bike before you waste $300.  Make sure it is for the
later DR350, the early ones are incompatible.  I don't think the battery
makes a difference on the DR, the CDI is powered by its own exciter coil in
the magneto.  If you do need to replace it, its under the seat and easy to
get too.  I would check with the dealer, before you mess with it, since your
bike is a 99'.
