Subject: (cbiz) PRESS RELEASE: SWITCHBLADE #1 ships
Date: 06 Jan 1998 10:37:26 -0500
Silverline's first title, SWITCHBLADE, should be on the shelves of finer comic
retailers by the time you read this. "We'd planned to get the 1st issue out in
time for Christmas," said Roland Mann, Silverline's editor and writer of
SWITCHBLADE, "but it just didn't happen. The book left the printers on Dec.
19th, but what with the holidays and having to go through the distributors and
all, it just didn't make it. But the great news is that it is out and that it
looks good. Response thus far has been VERY positive, which is exciting. That,
coupled with some of the R.A. Jones titles we'll be announcing soon, has
helped to keep us flying high around here--keep your ears open for that news!.

Subject: (cbiz) Comic vs. comics
Date: 07 Jan 1998 15:53:25 +0100
Hi!
I need some help from Europe about the word usually used for the =
American Art of comics. I found "comic (book)" and "comics" in my =
Harrap's dictionary. Does it mean that "comic" is only used in =
conjunction with the noun "book" ("a comic book", "comic books") or =
is it allowed to use it alone? What's the difference between the =
singular and the plural forms?
In French, we use "la bande dessin=E9e" ("la BD") as well as "les =
bandes dessin=E9es" ("les BD") as the two phrases express the same =
concept.
Thanks for your help.
Patrick

Subject: (cbiz) SILVERLINE PRESS RELEASE:
Date: 26 Jan 1998 10:49:45 -0500
Silverline Reunites Protectors=92 Creative Team
R.A. Jones And Thomas Derenick Produce CYBERTRASH AND THE DOG One-shot
When it was announced last month that fan favorite writer R.A. Jones
(Schimidar, White Devil, Dark Wolf, Sinbad, Protectors, The Ferret) would=
be
working with Silverline, the phones began ringing off the hook. Everyone
wanted to know exactly what it was that R.A. would be doing.
Well, wonder no more. R.A.=92s first project with the reborn Silverline
reunites him with successful penciller Thomas Derenick (Protectors, Venom=
).
Jones and Derenick had an incredibly popular run on Malibu=92s The Protec=
tors,
and it was during this time that the two formed their friendship.
=93Even after Malibu cancelled the title,=94 said Derenick, =93I maintai=
ned contact
with R.A. and we continued our friendship. The two of us continued to con=
coct
idea after idea.=94
Jones confirmed, =93My friendship with Thomas was more than just work. H=
e had a
lot of creative energy and is not one of these artists afraid of work. Yo=
u
just have to look at his portfolio to know that he loves what he=92s doin=
g.=94
=93When Roland contacted me and told me about Silverline,=94 continued J=
ones, =93I
knew immediately it might be a possible avenue for some of the stuff that
Thomas and I had been working on.=94
When we asked Jones if there was indeed more projects planned with Deren=
ick,
he smiled and said, =93We=92ll just take it one-shot at a time.=94
Cybertrash And The Dog is a one-shot stand alone story. Throughout the w=
orld,
100 years of growing unemployment amoung youth has resulted in the format=
ion
of thousands of violent gangs. Life is chaotic and dangerous. Law enforce=
ment
agencies lack the manpower to deal with the gangs. So they have turned to
Cybernet, a privately owned corporation in Toyko. This company builds hig=
hly
specialized cyborgs designed for combat. They lease these to the police. =
Only
a few humans, all women, have the unique genetic structure that will acce=
pt
implantation of cybernetic mechanisms. They become 75% mechanical...and t=
hey
always work in pairs. They are teamed with a male, fully human partner wh=
o
serves as a tracker. These men are known as "bloodhounds." Gang members a=
nd
other criminals contemptuously refer to these cyborgs as "cybertrash."
Cybertrash And The Dog is scheduled for release in May.

Subject: (cbiz) Question about this list
Date: 26 Jan 1998 22:59:15 -0500
When I subscribed to this list, I think the description said it was
about anything pertaining to the business side of comics; all I've seen,
though, are press releases. Is this an appropriate forum to ask
questions about business aspects of comics, or would that not fit in
here?
